After a hot and tiring full day of walking/sight-seeing, our family of four stopped for a cool drink and a snack in the early afternoon. (This place was a sentimental favourite of my husband's, who once lived nearby). We weren't disappointed. They didn't have alcoholic drinks (so no cold beer for my husband!) but the cold grenadine-lemonades and milkshakes were perfect. The salad was huge and delicious. The atmosphere in the lush open terrace was delightful - neighbourhood cats prowling about, squirrels scampering up trees, and birds twittering on the branches. It was true garden dining in the middle of the city. The server who attended us was super nice and engaged with us.
Very overrated place. The hygiene is very questionable (unclean tables and glasses) and in addition the service is slow and unprofessional (as in inexperienced and rude), finally my coffee was cold and the dish not so tasty but copious. That said, they have a gorgeous terrace.
This is for Friday July 8 between 1-2pm We arrived around 1pm and were 2nd in line and a party of 4. We were told to wait for some time and our name was noted down. For next 50+ min what unfolded is an ordeal of discrimination and terrible customer service + ignorance Around 20 min in, at 1:30pm we saw that flocks of people in parties of 2 or 3 were seated and were immeditely given a table. Almost 10-12 parties after us were given seating and our name was still at top of list just left as is the manager/front desk lady did not ask for water or tell us why she would not seat us or ask if we would like to split in tables of 2 or give any timing when we approached her a couple of times the phrases we got from her were "i cannot give any time" "your turn will come eventually" AND "I KNOW HOW TO DO MY JOB" after 50 min of waiting when we were agitated and told her we were leaving because we clearly see what is going on from her side and empty tables - she got aggressive in her tone and turned towards her staff and said "F'EM" and walked away we were speechless standing there in front of other customers and staff with the treatment we have received vs the Cafe Santropol we know it once stood for and the values you built it with my parents were visting us from overseas and we were enthusiastic to have them experience and enjoy our beloved place but this behavior and discrimination was such an embarassment to my family It seems THIS PARTICULAR SERVER IS A REPEAT OFFENDER OF SUCH TREATMENT. WE SEE MANY SAME EXACT PAST EXPERIENCES TO FOLKS, ONE BEING ON APR 23, 2022 I URGE THE OWNER TO TAKE A HARD LOOK AND CORRECT THIS SOON
Every time I go to Montreal I go to Santropol Cafe. Delicious healthy and huge cream cheese sandwiches creations, very nice terrace, original decor and great vibe. My favourite spot in Montreal. Five stars
Really nice place, the garden is super cute. The food is also great, I've shared two sandwiches with a friend and both were tasty! The portions are good.I'll definitely go back !
This is a gem of a place. Have been here twice never disappointed. I am person who doesn’t brown bread or salad . But the way food is prepare here makes me come back every time . Very warm and welcoming place to connect to people . The outside patio is very beautiful place to spend time . The washrooms could have been maintained better , but then again there are only 2-3 waitresses to look after the place and they do an amazing job .
We stumbled upon this little gem on a 24 hour stint in Montreal. Just walking around, we saw this place and it’s eclectic allure was calling out to us. The atmosphere was so quaint. The food even better. We tried their (coconut) CBLT. I’m not usually one to enjoy things that have a predominant coconut flavour but this sandwich was *chefs kiss* perfect. It was an amazing amalgamation of flavours that I never would have thought to mix. The second item we ordered was the the Chaucer Salad which had roasted tofu and chickpeas with a super flavourful tamari marinade and a pesto aioli. The delicious food aside, the lovely and wonderfully eclectic decor is enough in itself to make me want to return. 10/10 would recommend
Their bread is sooooooooo good! This place is a Montreal landmark. Sandwich combos are fantastic and creative. Go if you're vegetarian, vegan, or neither! You can order online for pickup, but I also recommend eating-in, as the ambiance is cozy, quirky, and comfortable.
This spot always excels! You can count on amazing foood and service each time! The soups are homemade and wholesome and the homemade bread- WOW ?. We will be back again?
What a gem! I come here every time I'm in Montreal. My favourite items on the menu are the killer tomato sandwich and tomato bisque.. I keep meaning to try something else, but can't quite bring myself to do it!I just love sitting on the gorgeous patio. It's so relaxing and has a great vibe, and is an easy place to come even for a solo lunch.Huge, generous portions and always a delicious meal.. you really can't go wrong! It's also located in a cool neighbourhood with lots of shops nearby. Highly recommend!
