The workers there are simply the most patient and lovely..how they can do it is a mystery. Yummy and dense breads, mostly white. But good stuff.
Maybe they're just having an "off" day, but there's something weird about this place. The pastries look amazing but don't taste as good as they look (kinda stale, kinda oversweet). I also ordered a large coffee and they made a small one, so I asked "is this the large?" and they insisted it was the large while quietly editing my receipt to charge for 0.7x of a large coffee (I don't get it, I just want a bigger drink or for someone to admit that they made the wrong size for some reason; it was bizarre).Even on a non-busy day it took a long time to get things, I've seen long lineups here and it seems over-hyped.
**a very rude employee**Was at this store this afternoon. I asked for 3 cheesecake to go for a small gathering we are having at home. But since I had some time, I asked if I can order something to eat in. The girl said yes. So, I got a croissant and a very hot tea. As I go to the seating area, I find it closed. Holding the hot tea with difficulty, I find a bench inside the store where some people were eating while seated. So, I figured out that this is the seating area. I squeeze myself in and before having the first sip, another employee comes and asks everybody to leave. I was angry automatically as the other girl at the counter took my order conditional that I can sit. So, I ignored the employee and tried to finish the hot tea while seated. She comes back and insists that I leave. A very rude employee and a very unprofessional manner in handing the situation.
Very disappointed about their service, I purchased a big order online and pick it up at Atwater market, when the guy took my order out he obviously couldn’t take so many boxes at once, and my cake dropped, he said “we don’t have more in the fridge, do you still want this?”. I accepted because I have no choice, I understand the store is so busy every day and employees are tired, but I even didn’t hear an apology. No sorry, nothing. The cake today is ok. I spent $74 at store but not happy at all.
Brought home almond croissants and a cookie with jam in the middle, that I purchased at the Atwater Market bakery. The croissant's were soft and pasty and the cookie was tasteless (lard was the prominent flavor) . Was not the bakery that I remember. Everything ended up in the trash. Very disappointed. Would give them a minus star if I could.
The desserts here are half the size of the same ones you can get elsewhere. More than $5 for a two bite piece of cake. Please see my photo for comparison next to my very small fingers.
