The bar room is a sight to behold. Intricate woodwork that could not be reproduced today at really any cost. The food we had, arancini, was quite tasty. But everything about the service and drinks was some of the worst I've had. This was at 6 on a Tuesday. It was not too busy and was well-staffed. It's like we didn't exist, and neither did the many empty glasses and beer bottles sitting on the bar waiting to be cleared. The food came quickly, well before the drinks. The drinks only came after reminding two different people. About a 12 minute wait for food and close to 30 for drinks. Food was gone before we got drinks - and one of the drinks was seltzer! The cocktail that came was incorrect, it was a clear liquor drink with lime juice while the ordered cocktail had rye, passionfruit, and peychaud's bitters. The server said it was the correct drink. nope. We just wanted to leave so we drank it, paid, and left. For ~$20 CAD per cocktail, this is a joke. And be forewarned that the music is loud, even early on a Tuesday. They are going for a clubbier vibe. If you are looking for a nice, chill hotel bar with good service, this ain't it. The room really is quite lovely, though.

At 10p.m., we arrive to an energetic, music filled atmosphere with a variety of people chatting, eating and engaged. Montreal is alive again! We sat around a massive labradorite bar, the gleams and flashes of the stone reflecting in the subtle lighting. The music is the perfect volume- loud enough to excite the senses, but not too loud that you can still carry a conversation. My date and I decided on dirty vodka martinis and a plate of oysters as our late night snack and we were not disappointed. The oysters were perfectly shucked, the mignonette was tangy and complimented the salty brine of the oysters perfectly. We continued with a nice crisp white to compliment the saltiness of the oysters and we left the bar smiling and excited to come back in a few days for a full dinner service. Our full dinner service at bar George was nothing short of extraordinary. We began with incredible service from a knowledgeable server who shared insight into the menu and what options we might enjoy. Again, we started with oysters. While my date had another classic martini, I discovered the cocktail menu at bar George and enjoyed a cocktail with local Rhum called the 'Séparateur' which was fresh and delicious and went down quickly and heightened the experience of the oysters. The extensive cocktail list and my second cocktail of a 'Muir Bramble' showcased the skill of the bartending team. Once our oysters are cleared, my date enjoyed an incredible swordfish that was perfectly cooked with delicious crisp skin, above a bed of beluga lentils, which unfortunately were slightly undercooked, so retained a bit too much of a crunch. Regardless, the dish was beautiful. I myself sat down to an incredible Beef Wellington cooked to perfection, delicious wrapping of pastry and mushroom atop kale and a sweet potato puree which balanced the dish wonderfully. The pastry could have used a few more moments in the oven, but the Wellington itself was absolutely spectacular. We spoke with the manager as he passed by and complimented the incredible atmosphere and team service style that we observed at Bar George. He described how past and present collide in this magic space, and mentioned the beautiful private rooms that are available for rent for parties on the floors above. At the end of our meal, we explored the intricate inner workings of the club and the upstairs rooms. My date had a nostalgic experience walking into bar George, as this was a place from his childhood, his uncle was a member of the Mount Stephen Club before it was converted from a restaurant. The nostalgia shining in his eyes, recreating an iconic pose in front of the massive fireplace brought us both joy to see how the past infiltrates the present- I couldn't help but smile at the memories that we were creating on top of old memories that he already had. The classic atmosphere paired with a modernity of incredible cocktails, Quebec inspired food and impeccable service- bar George has accomplished a modern marvel of incorporating the old with the new in a classic French service style. We will definitely be returning.

My partner and I came to Bar George for the truffle gnocchi (no joke we looked at different menus from restaurants and chose this one for the gnocchis). They were absolutely DELICIOUS. Like mouth-watering-only-in-your-wildest-and-best-dreams incredible. The lobster pasta was loaded with meat and equally fantastic. The best part was our server, Jonathan. He made sure from the moment we sat down to the moment we left that we were well taken care of. Jonathan was charismatic, jovial, and just an overall great human being. 11 out of 10!*It is expensive, but this is a treat you don't want to miss out on.

1st of all the place is Gorgeous, definitely giving the vibe for bougee Brunch, the cocktails were amazing, the food was tasty. Service was slow...we were down to order something sweet after our meal but the server never came back. When he did it was to give us the bills

Great bartenders.

We went on Saturday. Not the first time, always good service but this time we felt rushed. Maybe over served. Every 5 minutes we had girls coming and ask us if we finished eating at the bar. Maybe they needed the place. I was with a friend. I ordered one drink which they did not have so she recommended me a drink which she said only Vodka and lime juice. I was ok since I only drink vodka The drink was fine lots of ice and the big surprise was the price, it was 24$ which is almost the most expensive one on the menu. We were shocked not because of the money but for miss presenting the drink. Not mentioning the price and suggesting something which was not well represented. Then when they brought the bill and I asked she mentioned that it has some sort of liquor which was not mentioned before. Not impressed by this. Other than that the food was very good but as I said we felt rushed and honestly for the first time it was not that busy. So not sure why

Beautiful restaurant and bar in downtown Montreal. Separate dinner and bar areas make this a very nice restaurant. At the bar area, there is a DJ playing house music, but we couldn't see him from the dinner area. Steak and duck for the main course and mushroom soup and fritters for appetizers. All the food was well cooked and delicious. I appreciated the attentive service. On the second floor is the restroom. On the way there you can take pictures of the staircase, and the restroom was very beautiful as well. The food and experiences were great here!

Extremely luxurious interior designs, wow. Loved the whole atmosphere, it felt very high class and the service was impeccable! The truffle gnocchis was delicious but the rest were okay! We had a private room for our group of friends and it felt more intimate and fun. We waited a little while for our bottle of liquor so they offered us desserts on the house ! What a service ! 100% would recommend

One of the loveliest dining experiences I’ve had in recent memory. Gorgeous room, thoughtful staff, cool ambience - unlike anywhere else. We had mushy pea fritters, devils on horseback, chicken liver mousse, beef Wellington, whiskey pudding, the baked Alaska - all wonderful. A very cool, very chic classic.

My friend and I had a reservation for today on the terrasse. One of us cannot eat indoors due to immune issues. We arrived to find the terrasse closed. I specifically asked for the terrasse with my Open Table reservation. The day before arrival when asked to confirm that reservation I added that we MUST be on the terrasse. It was closed because it might rain, though the terrasse is well covered. (As an aside, it did not rain yet and it's now 4.5 hours after the lunch reservation). The restaurant should have phoned to say they could not accommodate us, given my specifications and their decision that day. We wasted time, energy and expensive taxis to go there only to be told: indoors or nothing. I had been to that resto dozens of times prior to the pandemic. I was eager to go again on my second trip to a terrasse in 2.4 years. What a disappointment. What a disregard for customers. And the worst part is I have a friend who had tried to book and had a similar experience a month ago. I can only conclude that this resto is no longer customer friendly. In fact, the only person who was friendly was the guy outside at the entrance. I'm sure that they don't care that I'm not eager to return. What a sad state of customer service when restaurants are anxious to regain customers, or so they say.
