Small place but not so crowded, distance between tables is good. The servers are nice but not very experienced. Good looking and tasty dishes. A bit pricey though. At the center core of Waterloo, but the front door is quite small, hard to find.
Super fresh ingredients. The sushi here is super good quality and my fiance and I really enjoyed the ambiance. Service was okay, some dishes came out fast and some took a really long time. I definitely recommend it ??
Mango tango is a must! They use good mangoes in addition to a mango drizzle. It’s all so delicious - you can get a big meat platter which is also pretty good tasting and has good value. You can’t go wrong here.
Hands down best sushi in Waterloo. A little pricy but they have the best quality and cut of sashimi. Everything was prepped right after ordering and tasted very fresh. A great splurge.
Extremely underwhelming given the raving reviews. I visited on a Sunday at 2pm and could only order from the dinner menu. I wanted a dish that was primarily salmon but aside from the salmon don (which was unavailable), there is nothing of the sort on the dinner menu (the lunch menu has a salmon lover bento which I came for). The miso soup was quite literally flavourless. Service was fine.Frankly, would not recommend given the selection, quality, and price ($30+ a head after tax and tip)Pictured are the una don (7/10), salmon crunch roll -1 piece (4/10), and fish bowl (7/10). Also had the chicken karaage (7/10)
When we first got to the restaurant on a weekday lunch, it wasn’t too busy so we got a seat right away. We were served our water and menu soon after. We got the Shiro Maguro Carpaccio - Seared Tuna sashimi with ponzu and scallion ($14) and this was so tasty especially if you like your sashimi a bit grilled, giving it a different texture. During lunch you can get these bento boxes which are great deals. We got the Traditional Nigiri Bento ($16) which was also very delicious, the fish is very fresh. Next, we got some specialty rolls; Salmon Crunch Roll ($14) and Baked Scallop Roll ($14). The Salmon crunch is everything you expect, tasty salmon, a bit spicy from the sauce and crunchy from the tempura bits sprinkled along the roll. I have never had something like the baked scallop roll, it was so unique, creamy and fully cooked so it is great for people that don’t prefer to eat raw fish. This one is a must try! And finally we got the Fried Mochi with Vanilla Ice Cream ($8). This was very good as well, we expected the mochi to be softer but it almost has a crunchy bread texture and doesn’t have much taste but blends so well with the vanilla ice cream so it’s not too sweet. Loved everything we got.The waiters are kind, they might not speak a lot due to a bit of a language barrier, but we love supporting a small business, and Watami never disappoints!
I've been an ongoing patron of Watami both at their original location and their new location across the street. Their service and the quality of food has always been consistent and always been enjoyable! My favourites include: the buta shioyaki, nigiri set, as well as the fish bowl.
I wish I could rate this higher. I attended on a Thursday afternoon. The service by Yoko was amazing. I tried nearly everything, and the foie gras was an electric experience. Phenomenal.Everything else was fantastic as well, there wasn't really anything that I didn't loveYes it was expensive. I drove 2 hours round trip to just eat here, and paid the bill - very very worth it. Cannot wait to come back
Creative, beautiful, and delicious maki in a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is a great date night destination and our server was friendly and helpful when choosing what to eat. There is a bit of a wait for your food, but that is to be expected when it is fresh and well prepared. We will be back!
Hands up best sushi restaurant in the Waterloo Region. We love Ken's but the quality and ambience here cannot be beaten.Price wise, it is on the upper end, $50 for 20 price of sashimi-- but it was worth it.Great tea quality and the pork belly is so thick and well seasoned. Don't let it sit for too long though, it will dry out as it continues to cook on the stand it is presented on.Benn craving it ever since I visited and left.Perfect place for a date, or if you just want to sit down with a book and enjoy some Japanese food in peace.
