I would give zero stars if I could. I purchased two pricey cheese products today, paid and left the store. Thirty seconds later I realized that one of the items I had picked up was the wrong product, similar label. I returned to the store no less than one minute later to exchange the item and was told the policy is that they cannot exchange/refund diary products once they leave the store. That is totally unreasonable as it is 2 degrees outside and I returned to the store one minute after leaving, just made it around the corner as I was walking. Cashier remembered me, but was made to feel stupid at the cash. I am a local customer and this will be the last time I shop at any Big Carrot location. This is not a way to treat any customer. Needless to say, I drove up to Loblaws and got what I needed at a better price. Will never go back to the Big Carrot. Not recommended.
Decent grocery for quick shopping needs in walking distance to a residential area. However I had an experience with a cashier which left me feeling uneasy. I ended up using a brown paper bag (apparently meant for the coffee - I didn’t know) to fill a handful of cashews (I couldn’t find the appropriate bag for the nuts). At checkout the cashier was confused and was pricing in coffee when I said it was cashews. While it was understandable she was confused if that is what the brown paper bag is typically used for, it was the response following that made me feel small after I apologized - “well, now you know for next time” in an admonishing tone. A simple “not a problem” would have sufficed.Everyone else however appeared friendly and willing to help.
I actually love the big carrot, but their gift card policies are completely out of whack. In the midst of COVID and another lockdown, I called the store looking to buy a gift card for my sister who loves food, loves grocery shopping and is also a new mom (I figured she could take an every day experience and make a nice trip out of it).When I called the store they directed me to buying the card online. I think rep assumed I was looking to purchase things online due to COVID. I realize it is partly my fault that I failed to notice it he ecard was only for online shopping. When my sister called to tell me she couldn’t use it in store, I called to try to rectify the issue. Figured it would be easy. I asked them to help me out. I gave them several options: give me a refund and reissue me an in store gift card; let the funds be used for in store shopping; or if they’re worried about giving me a refund and that I wouldn’t repurchase the card, then just find a way to directly make it a store credit. I don’t care, either way the money ends up at the Big Carrot.The cash manager was nice about trying to help me, but it seemed like he had to discuss matters with another department. They eventually said that they couldn’t do it because “they’ve never done something like this before” and “it’s not standard practice”. I’ve worked at cash for years and have seen cash managers accommodate less reasonable requests or demands. So for me, these excuses Arne lack of willingness to help is disappointing. Aside from the 150$ gift card, This “community” grocery store has lost my respect and business going forward.

During my vacation, I stayed around this area where there was this nice grocery store and it was great because I could get any of the toiletries, groceries and any other daily amenities from there. Nice friendly staff as well, including the security guard who would welcome us in every time he recognized us.
Small 'community' grocery store, prioritizing organic goods, vitamins/supplements, and profiling customers. Prices arent really competitive, but some of the products are absolutely worth the money. The shopping experience can be quite uncomfortable though, as they will have security follow you around the store, assuming you have come in to shoplift. I suspect this experience worsens depending on how they profile your appearance upon entry. Its an absolute shame I like buying the honey here so much, because you will leave the store feeling like a criminal. YMMV
Cashier coughed into her hands before handing me the receipt. Don’t do that, even if there wasn’t a pandemic.Overall, inferior to the Danforth store, which itself isn’t as good as it used to be.
Organic is not necessarily environmentally friendly.So many plastic, single-use, clamshell containers at Big Carrot with undoubtedly yummy food I will never get to try.We are in a crisis and business is going to have to start responding because many of us are making contentious purchase choices and there are indeed choices….bare market, unboxed, fresh city.When I asked if the store had considered buying grab and go items in vegetable-cellulose, compostable containers, I was dismissed.The grocery bags are even regular plastic.Quite disappointing. Do better big carrot.
