Get the fish bowl and you won't regret it.
I must say, I had high hopes for this place and unfortunately they came up short. So disappointed with the “hot and guac”, I tried all the hot sauces and none of them I would consider remotely hot. No lime was sent with anyone of the food, which is something I have never seen in Mexican cuisine. The guacamole had no flavour or anything really special about it. The taco’s were lacking originality, and were smothered with mayonnaise. Didn’t see cilantro on any of the food, and everything was in serious need of it (and salt… and other spice). Was really looking forward to good Mexican food in the neighbourhood, and unfortunately I don’t think this is it. I really hope they start using more traditional spices and ingredients, because if they do that this spot has serious potential.I must also add that if you do insist on eating here, ask for your own limes, and light on the sauce. My husband and I have been buying the fish burritos from this place for about two years now. We’ve tried other items but the fish is our favourite. The food never disappoints and the burrito’s portions are great. We crave these burritos regularly. So, why is one star knocked off? First, they close their kitchen approximately half an hour before closing time. I’d be alright with that if the closing time wasn’t 8pm on weekday… Often enough, we have called this restaurant asking to place an order after a long day’s work and we’re refused. Second reason, the price. It seems like almost every time we go, the price goes up by a few dollars. So, we don’t go as often anymore, but when we do it’s really good food. Definitely worth a try.
I had the tacos here and they were just so deliciously good. They tasted fresh and authentic. The only reason why I gave it one star less is because the portions aren't that large for the price; but nevertheless still tasty.
They have a takeout window on Yonge and a patio right on the street (see photos).The menu given to me was dirty and stained.I ordered a fish taco and a chicken taco (each costing $5.54 including tax).The tacos are very small and each had two corn tortillas (probably as a "gut fill" since the tacos are small).The chicken taco had probably less than a spoon of thinly shredded chicken. Really a minimal amount of chicken The fish piece was also very small.Both tacos tasted mostly of the tortillas.Not a good value and I certainly did not find it a quality product.The "patio" seating in the photos was only available till October 2021. As of now, they only have 2 small tables with 2 bar- stools each on the sidewalk next to the curb.
Excellent overall. My wife andI had the pork cochinita, beef barbacoa and baja fish tacos and all were great. I liked the beef best, with pork second, but my wife preferred the fish. Three to four tacos were a good meal depending on your appetite. Finished off with a chocolate churro which was very nice. Will definitely be back.
Just had lunch got a burrito. Cost me 17 bucks with tip. It was good. I give it a 9 out of 10 for taste. And 7 for cost. But you got make money ?Best luck in the nutty world
Looove the fish tacos, you have GOT to try them. Caramel churros are also great. Honestly it's decently priced and very good. Their little patio is great too and it's a nice spot for a chill meal and people watching. Staff are really nice too with friendly service. Love coming here
Clandestina offers convenient, unpretentious Mexican comfort food that is very flavourful and consistent. All of the different tacos and burritos are tasty and the nachos are also very good. Best options are the pork and fish tacos and burritos. The guacamole is a rare weak point. Always ask for the hot sauce if you like heat to be put on your food. It’s a great place to either grab a quick burrito to go or to sit and have a casual patio outing with food and margaritas.
I do really want to like this place. But it's concerning that the same low reviews about price/quality/presentation continue to show up even after 2 yrs. It's wonderful that you're responding to the reviews about customer's experience both good and bad.. but doesn't look like much has been done to change anything.. atleast according to my experiences and the reviews.But it's always busy so ?
