5/5 for the food here. Big portions, reasonable prices and the service was quick. Highly recommend the gamjatang, the portions were gigantic and I couldn’t finish my meal.Service on the other hand, the waitress was incredibly rude. I did not like the attitude she gave to my friends and I:- my friend asked for a refill of the starting apps and she made a snarky comment “you’re not even finished, I’ll refill them when you’re done”. Mind you, there were only two pieces of kimchi and a few bean sprouts left on those dishes. She could have just went about to refill without being difficult and passive aggressive.-it was 10:49pm, they close at 11pm on Sundays. There were three other tables still eating. I was in the middle of telling my friends a story and the same waitress yelled across the restaurant: “EXCUSE ME, WE CLOSE AT 11PM TODAY” as if my table was the only reason from holding her back in closing. We were understanding so, we finished our food quickly and lined up to cash out.-When we were cashing out, she became frustrated because there were 8 of us paying. Knowing the waitress was already anxious in closing, my husband had his credit card ready to tap but for some reason, the waitress thought that was a sign of rushing her in getting a receipt and she proceeded to say: “Can you give me a minute?!”.Food was great but will not come again because of the service. My group was not difficult to deal with, I understand it was end of the day but we didn’t deserve the waitress’ attitude. Go to Jin Dal Lae instead, just few shops down.
Good service with cheap and cheerful Korean dishes. Went for the hot stone bowl and was not disappointed!
One of the best spots for real Korean food. Love the chill homey vibe and amazing service. Great menu - my fave is the sweet and spicy chicken bulgogi. They give tons of sides. Been coming for yrs. As authentic as it gets.
Came across this hidden gem on Bloor Street West serendipitously after Sunday morning exercise on a single digit day. Majority of the restaurants in Korean town open around 11-11:30AM but the owner opened early for us around 10:30AM with a big smile on her face. The portion was more than I anticipated (a lot more than the nearby competition). Price was fair and the food was authentic and delicious. We ordered the classic Gam Ja Tang and Bulgogi along with the complimentary unlimited traditional Korean side dishes. I would definitely go back again and make this my top 5 local restaurants to support on a regular basis. Like other reviewers mentioned, this restaurant only comprised of one chef (the owner) and one waitress, please be patient and I promise you the food is worth the wait! I also had an opportunity to speak the owner and shared that her restaurant has been opened for over 20 years. Extremely happy that I came across this lovely restaurant and owner/chef!
Extremely disappointed. Came back for the first time since covid, their portion size decreased but price had gone up. My husband and I ordered the army stew, $34 before tax. It was mostly soup and kimchi. No tofu, no spam, barely any noodles or meat. They also stopped offering chapchae as one of their side dishes. Not sure if they changed ownership, I don't recognize any server or chef.Sunrise used to be my go to Korean restaurant. Don't think I'm going back again.
I've mixed feelings about this place. For a start, the menu on their website is INACCURATE. The prices were actually a lot more expensive than what the website leads you to believe, which seems very sneaky to me. Each item was at least around $6 more expensive. My wife and I had vegetable dumpling soup, a kimchi pancake, and a tofu bibimbap. My wife threw up later in the day and we suspect it was because of the MSG, possibly in the pancake or in the hot sauce. I found a long hair in my soup and they did at least take it off the bill. We were looking forward to trying out a really recommended and unpretentious restaurant and were instead a bit disappointed. So beware, especially of the prices,.
Great food as usual but they really jacked up their prices big time.
Great korean food, veggie options are available per request and the service was amazing. Took very good care that their customers are comfy...
Real Authentic Korean food!!!Very friendly owners that are super helpful, and proud of what they do. Highly recommend this place
Today I decided to give this restaurant a 2nd try because the first time I went, they gave us drinking water that smelt like toilet water. It was probably a water pipe issue but it doesn't take away the fact that the water smelt like toilet water. For the 2nd visit, I ordered a kalguksu which is a Korean take on chicken noodle soup. In it, I had found a long piece of hair (about 2 inches long) and lost my appetite immediately. However, because it was a noodle soup, I didn't see the hair until I reached 75% through the bowl as it was lodged between the onion pieces. When I asked the waiter to come and assess the situation, she came back offering only 50% off the whole dish. I understand these are hard times for restaurant owners but I felt that I've been disappointed by this restaurant. First with the toilet water and then the hair in my food. They should have owned up to their mistake instead of trying to pin it on some random "dust story." Honestly, doesn't matter what the back story is -- if there is hair in someone's food, you should either a) REPLACE the whole DISH or b) OFFER A REFUND. Safe to say, my friends and I will never be coming back to this establishment because it's unsanitary and I do not recommend for anyone to come to this restaurant either. There's better Korean restaurants less than a block away.
