Never been to a speciality handmade udon place before, but if I ever have the chance to come back here on another trip to Toronto, I would definitely return! Ordered the eggplant and fried oysters for appetizers which were great, but the star was the udon with a very light, clear broth and the noodles having a great texture. Perfect if you’re not looking to have too heavy a meal, but plenty of delicious appetizer options to add-on as well!
The food was so delicious. I had tried kimchi once before but it wasn’t till I tried it at Raku that I truly came to appreciate it. I do appreciate the fact that they have 3 vegan main options and they apps too! It was a great experience and the servers were so attentive and lovely. All the food came hot and fresh to our table and we loved every bit of it. It was a bit pricey but it is fair. The total ended up being about $100 for a dinner of 4 with apps and three mains but it was well worth the experience.
An authentic Japanese udon experience in Toronto. We were here at 5:15pm on Good Friday and happened to be no line up so we got seated immediately. Ordered edamame, agedashi tofu, Kitsune hot udon, Yamakake cold udon, and Sabazushi. Love love love the Yamakake udon (grated mountain yam, quail egg, and bonito flakes) simple ingredients with the chewy udon but have the best taste all together.
The best hot udon noodles soup I’ve had! The light, clear broth is a perfect match for the bouncy udon noodles. The noodles have an incredible chewy texture and have a slight firmness to them. Would definitely try anything with their udon noodles in it!I tried the fried chicken app as other reviews seemed to rave about it. But I didn’t find it that special, and the chicken was a bit over fried as parts tasted nearly burnt.
Friendly staff! It was busy when we were there on Saturday but we didn't need to wait at all. We ordered the monkfish liver and karaage to start. Monkfish liver was entirely forgettable but the fried chicken was delicious. For mains we ordered the curry udon and tantan udon- both were very delicious! It comes with a lot of soup so we packed the broth to make noodles at home. Highly recommend this restaurant!
This restaurant is super busy. I was there at 12:15pm and it was full by 12:25pm.The Chawanmushi was amazing. Each ingredient was well seasoned and fresh. The egg itself was so soft, and it tasted well balanced with all the ingredients. The udon was good too. The udon was tendered, however I found the broth was a bit too sweet and salty for me.Overall, it was a neat, cute Japanese restaurant with fresh ingredients made food.
I ordered the toriten udon bowl and gyoza. The broth was so light but hearty, a perfect contrast to the savoury, tender fried chicken. I placed the chicken pieces on the side to maintain the crispy texture.Overall, a delicious, comforting meal! The service is top-tier and I did not wait long for the food. I’ll definitely be back when I visit Toronto.
First time having Raku was when it first opened. It literally changed my outlook on udon and I fell in love. Had Raku again recently as takeout and it still didn’t disappoint. They pay attention to food quality and separated the takeout (noodles , soup, toppings all separate) to make sure customers could enjoy food at its prime. They also included microwave instructions for EACH dish. The ankake udon is my fav. Also got the tantan udon which was spicy but a great choice is you like spice. Tried the yaki nasu which was good too
My friend recommended this udon place for a while and I only got to go and try it recently with her. I love Ramen‘s and noodles and udon so I was definitely excited to try this place. I ordered the duck breast udon which was quite tasty and the ankimo which is Monk liver was my favourite dish out of everything. My friend had the crab udon which had a thicker broth if you’re into that but it was also quite tasty as well. We ordered the crab salad, it was a little pricey for the portion, it was $19 and it lacked a bit of flavour. Keep in mind if you are coming with a party, they do require your whole party to be there before they can seat you. I was trying to get a table when I arrived but had to wait outside while my friend was making her way there. Since it’s cold now, just make sure you planned accordingly. We tried one of their cold sakes, which was quite tasty would recommend. Once you are inside, I guess because it’s so cold outside, they do blast the heat quite a bit so again, dress accordingly. Overall the experience was pretty good, just didn’t love the fact that I had to wait outside from my friend in the cold. We left a number for them to call us when the table was ready but we did wait for 30 minutes and didn’t get a call, so when we went back and asked him if there are tables available we looked around and there were multiple tables open and they said oh yes we have a table now. Which we thought it was kind of weird.Overall the service was ok. Food was good.
The fried chicken is a popular order here and I can see why. It’s a safe option to start your meal with. The deep fried oysters were delicious & tastier than I imagined. One of my favorites for sure. The liver monkfish is another good appetizer to start with. The udon is very delicious I totally loved the texture of the udon, the broth, and all the veggies that came with it.Overall great experience and the service was wonderful.
