We were looking forward to trying MAIZ Yonge for a long time and, we finally had the chance to several weeks ago.We started with some drinks and a couple of Arepas but, even though the food was OK, it didn’t live up to the expectations so, we decided to call it a day.We agreed that the portions weren’t as filling nor memorable. Perhaps, it is a matter of what you order or simply a lack of consistency.
My review is about two different aspects. The food was delicious, we order the complete nachos and beef tacos. However, not having guacamole on a Latin American restaurant was extremely disappointing. The place is very well decorated and family friendly. My biggest complaint, besides the lack of guacamole is about our server. Asking if we wanted main dish, drink or whatever ever 5 minutes! We barely had eat half of our nachos and she was asking what we would like for main course. It looks like nobody has trained her on how to approach to customers. I would recommend take out if you have plans to enjoy a slow meal and chat with your friends/family.REPLYING…I appreciate the follow up Maiz but why you didn’t give this explanation about the organic avocados when we were there? It would be easier to understand.Another point, I was new in Toronto too and also probably committed some mistakes as a newbie. Two suggestions: add a pin in your trainee server, or ask her to mention “I’m new here but I’ll do my best to help you”.Thank you
We got takeout from Maiz. The service was prompt and very friendly. However the portions were small and the food was bland.for the portion sizes, the food was over-priced. I don’t think we will be going back.
Came here for an early dinner and ordered their pork tacos. The restaurant was near empty so I asked if I could sit closer to the window where it was brighter and there was more natural light. The waiter refused and offered the seats closer to the inside where I guess maybe it's more convenient for them to clean up. I took some time to decide on a drink and tried to make the happy hour by 5:58p (their HH ends at 6p). The waiter refuses the happy hour deal for me because it's too late and their machine can only charge regular price . Right. Very convenient way to charge me more. The food is decent but service is meh. It's a Wednesday and I came for an early dinner. Give me a break. I'll look for another spot for decent tacos.
Went with a business friend, and was really looking forward to it. Service was terrible - no info or details on the food was offered, and despite a small amount of people in the restaurant, had to flag the waitress down. Food portions were small, and placed alone on the plate with nothing else... looking forlorn and sad. Tasty enough, but that was not enough to carry the day. For example, one small burrito the size of a hotdog, placed on a dinner plate alone.
I didn't like the food. The restaurant is small but well decorated. I had the chorizo bowl which was staff recommended on the menu. It was not flavourful, super bland and I don't feel good after eating it. Maybe the tacos are better but it just was not good overall.
Some of the best food I've had In a while. Staff was super nice. Food was fresh and delicious!
My favourite place to get tacos in Toronto. They’re so delicious. Cant recommend this place enough.
I loved this place. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was calm and inviting, and it's small space was intimate and cozy. Oh, and the gluten free battered fish tacos are amazing. Our server, Victoria, was super kind, patient, and just an all around great human being. I look forward to visiting again soon!
Great ambience, service and menu options. Had chips and guac and arepas. Both were tasty. The arepas themselves were delicious but the chickpea filling in the vegetarian option was so-so, would have liked it better with tofu/seitan/jackfruit/ or other types of vegan friendly mexican fillings. Will go back to try their tacos and burritos some day.
