The food and the service were both surprisingly fantastic the first time I went here. I have been here two more since then and I guess I also need to add consistency to the list of praises because it was not a fluke. Their water service is some of the best I've encountered in the city, I don't think I had to ask once for a refill. The food is fresh, flavourful, plated well, and well worth the value.I've had the duck udon, beef udon (with soup), and OG beef udon (whtout the soup). All delicious. I've also tried the katsu which was super crispy and the flavor of the curry had a lot of depth. The oshizushi is my favorite whether I end up eating the mackeral, salmon, or shrimp. The scallop one is good but I'm just not a personal fan of raw scallops. I think the shrimp one is my favorite. They're all delicious with a big chunk of fish on the shaped rice. The torch flavor is lovely and balanced well with some acidity from the rice vinegar (?).The servers here are ALWAYS super friendly and patient and accomodating. It's always a pleasure to eat here. Thank you!
great service. The food comes out relatively quick. You’re meant to share everything that’s ordered as it comes in small portions. Everything tried was good. The calamari was just okay to me
First up, this place isn't super veggie friendly. There are about five dishes that are veggie. And I ordered all of those. ??♀️The cheesy bibimbap was great, slightly on the sweeter side. I asked for Sriracha, mixed that in an made it spicy and tangy. The crispy veg gyōzas were great! Really delicious. The eggplant agedashi was a let down. The eggplant should have been cut into smaller pieces as it would have soaked up the sauce better, and been a better accompaniment. The huge pieces, despite the marination lacked depth. For dessert, we had the matcha cheesecake, and it was bloody gorgeous.overall, the food experience was great. The place is usually a bit loud, but it added to the whole casual bar feeling. One thing that annoyed me was the depth of the seat. It's too small ?
Good sushi and fresh ingredients. Service nice and efficient. The only spot is the menu a little bit too simple. Not much of choice to be honest. The few options you can choose are good.
Came here twice in one week because of the good food, good vibes, and late night opening hours. Definitely recommend:The carbonara udon. It's finally it has made a return to the Kinka menu, as a permanent item this time! The pork tonkatsu curry. It even has meat bits in the curry sauce!
Came here for late night snacks.Karaage is juicy.Tokyo calarami is saucy and goodMackerel Oshizushi tastes ok.Good service!
Came here for dinner and this place was pretty busy!Side note: their chairs have no backs - like many Japanese restaurants (so don’t wear big jackets that you can stuff on top of your lap) and from what I could see there were no coat racksMenu is pretty simple but still had a lot of variety. Dishes were very tasteful and they gave good portions.I would normally give this 4 stars just because it is a bit pricey for my liking (but this is also downtown), but the extra star is for the chef who also happened to be our sake bomb expert. You can tell he really enjoys his job and gets into it.DON’T order the matcha cheesecake. It was the only thing I didn’t like. Tasted like a normal cheesecake. Didn’t get any matcha flavouring at all.
Gonna make this quick - really good food, loved the bento box.Wayyyy too loud. There was literally 5 back to back birthday/anniversary/something or other where they do the yelling song and dance thing. One or 2 is fine, but 5 in an evening just sucked - had to pause conversation for minutes at a time because of it. Not great for dates or 2-person parties I guess ??♂️Also - we ordered the 3 course menu and the servers were 1) inattentive (busy I guess) but also 2) impossible to flag down because they’re always looking down at their iPads.
3/5Izakayas generally have smaller portions so keep that in mind. Got the Beef Curry Cheese Bibimbap, that was delicious and the Octopus carpacio which tasted very good as well. Their Calpico mixed drink was sweet and tasty. The Oyster topped with cheese was just alright and expensive for the price but a good portion. My friends got the different dried Udons, Katsudon Curry and other versions of curry. Tbh most of what they ate could be easily made at home with the right ingredients from Chinatown or an Asian grocery store. I wouldnt pay the price for most of the other mains other than the hot stone Bibimbaps and ofc the seared Sushis for the mains. Service was friendly and we celebrated someone's birthday so got the 7 Sisters shot option which came with 7 shots with different flavours. Had to ask for clarification which shot was which flavour when they were handed out which wasn't the best in organization.Overall probably wouldn't visit again tbh. Highlight was Beef Curry Cheese Bibimbap and Octopus Carpacio.
Got the mackerel bento box and it was DELICIOUS! The fish was perfectly prepared sitting on top of really fluffy rice. It was accompanied by shredded sweet egg, fried fish cakes, and some pickled veggies. It was expensive, around $17 after tax but the meal was very filling.
