Heard great things about this place so wanted to try! Nice diner vibes and portions were generous and food was decent but we had to wait a long time for food (repeatedly saw other people who ordered after us get their food before use). Also would have been nice if we were seated in one of the available booths instead of in the back room which was kinda drab. Side note, I asked for honey and they were so old that it was actually solidified. Never seen packaged single serving honey look like that before.I had the Philly steak sandwich with a side of French Toast. The sand which was pretty tasty. A little greasy (the way I like it ?) and the bun was soft. Fries were ok - not my favourite. But the French toast was a definite no go. I’d still go back and try something else though. Prices were ok.
An unassuming, yet bustling diner that I regret I have not discovered sooner. Eating here in the atmosphere of the well visited restaurant makes me feel nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born yet. And the price! Super affordable, too, as a proper diner should be, not charging 20 bucks for a short stack of pancake.Service looks to be reasonably speedy and the employees are cheery and friendly, but my order was a bit slow, probably because I am a weirdo and ordered a meatloaf (instead of anything normal like egg benedict and burger) and a strawberry milkshake.Classic baked meatloaf out of a 50s diner with boiled (certainly does not taste like steamed, but would benefit hugely from it) cauliflower, broccoli and carrot, and enough home fries to feed a small family, all covered in thick gloopy gravy. Portion size is enormous, I could probably plant my face in it with room to spare, and my pulse shot up to above 100bpm while eating it.I feel like I could just go home and clonk out from the massive food coma creeping up my spine. The milkshake didn't help.Oh, tea and coffee seems to be free, too.10/10 would recommend.
Amazing food/service/atmosphere. My group of 7 was sat immediately without reservations. The food was incredible and was served with a smile. All aboard the best diner in town.Chew Chew!
A must stop if you're looking for a downtown hearty & affordable tasty breakfast. The stuff are very friendly, helpful & careful. Thank you Jonathan !
Wonderful meatloaf with egg benedict. The french toast had cinnamon for extra flavour. All in all, a good meal. :-)I decided to try new dishes: Pork Schnitzel and Macedonian Salad. The pork schnitzel was overcooked (dry and tough). In addition, it needs to be marinated for extra flavour. The Macedonian salad was excellent. A tad salty from the feta cheese.
Just had breakfast there for the first time.Don't judge a book by its cover. The outside is definitely not appealing and rather located in a place I wouldn't go at night, but I was pleasantly surprised how the staff is great, welcoming and the food is amazing .The price is also surprisingly low compared to other places. This will now because my new breakfast place of choice when I'm back in TO on business trip! Thanks Shawn for your patience and great service!
I'm so disappointed.. That I never tried this place sooner. I love diners like this - so much character. Places like this make you feel like you're eating a home cooked meal, made from scratch. I love that they don't skimp on portions or things like the amount of olives on my Greek salad. Service was above and beyond. Normally I can't stand when a girl younger than me calls me 'sweetie' or for us 'lovelies' but not the case with our server, Gray. Charming, professional and friendly and very efficient - she can call us whatever she likes, lol.An added shout out to this place - they are commissioned by Saint Luke's United Church across the street to provide the meals that are handed out twice a week as part of their meal program. It feeds people at Allan Gardens and others in the area. All the more reason Chew Chews deserves kudos and support from the community! Already looking forward to going back!
I admit, I felt a bit uncomfortable by entering the place, but that was completely unfounded. The Staff greet us like we will coming twice a week. really smart guy. the breakfast special is hard to beat.
Absolutely outstanding. The waitress was simply flawless, very professional and friendly, she offered complimentary food and drink refills due to delays in the kitchen, the food was on point, everything was really great. I don't normally give 5 star reviews but this was one of the very best customer service experiences in Canada (rivalling what you get in the United States). Will definitely return soon.
