This review is based on the nasi lemak. Ordered over the phone to pick up my order and it was ready in a quick 10 minutes. The dish comes with sambal, fried chicken, an egg, peanuts, dried anchovies and cucumbers over a bed of rice. The sambal is very spicy and has a sweet and complex flavour that was perfect with rice. You also get a mix of textures from all the ingredients. You get a good portion for the price.
Awesome nasi lemak combo with very yummy (and spicy) sambal, cordyceps soup and lemon tea! We also had their fried kuey teow-mee. This was cooked right with a nice smoky taste that we enjoy in this famous Malaysian dish.Only issue here: they only accept CASH transactions here. Would’ve ordered more food if I could use my debit card. :) we saw two customers leave upon seeing this notice.
Food was fresh, service was efficienct and the lemon tea was delicious! Will definitely come back!
They are a Honk Kong Chinese restaurant. However the chef is from Malaysia so they offer a few Malaysian dishes. We've been twice to this restaurant. The first time was in 2021 when indoor dining was not allowed so we did takeout. But on 2021-01-03, we went for indoor dining dinner, just before another "no indoor dining" mandate starting 2022-01-05. This time we specifically went to try their Malaysian dishes. This review is about our most recent visit. The restaurant is located on the second floor of Dragon City Mall. They only accept cash.On 2022-01-03, we ordered the following:1. Special Combo 47: Baked Fish with Spinach/Cheese & Bacon in Cream Sauce on Rice ($13.00).2. C20: Malaysian Chan Gui Diao ($12.00).3. Special Combo (off-menu): Nasi Lamak ($12.00).The special combos come with a soup of the day and a drink. The soups of the day (on the day we were there) were:- Bawang Hua & Pork Soup- Russian Bortsch SoupThe drinks for special combos are:- coffee, Hong Kong Style milk tea, mixed coffee & tea, lemon tea, lemon water, soy milk, popWe chose one of each soup and 2 soy milks.1. This is a typical Hong Style style dish which our son loves.2. They used two different types of noodles along with plenty of shrimp. We asked for it not to be spicy and for the spicy sauce on the side which turns out to be sambal sauce. My wife absolutely loves this dish.3. Nasi Lemak is a very popular Malaysian dish. It was spot on. It had all the right ingredients and it was a mid-spicy. The chicken was tender. The sabal (hot sauce) is made by the chef. Extremely delicious. The owners are a husband-wife team; the husband is from China and the wife is from Malaysia. The chef and his wife (waitress) are from Malaysia. There is no free WiFi but you can use the Dragon City free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible (use an elevator to get to the second floor). There is a gender-neutral washroom.Review 2021-001.If you like my review, please give my review a thumbs up and click on my profile pic (at the top, on a mobile/cell phone), and click on "Follow"). This restaurant is situated in the heart of aurban area near the university of toronto. It is a favorite hangout for Chinese food lovers. The decor is a stunning mix of Chinese and Canadian canteen style Every table provides a clear view of the staff working in the restaurant. Diners without reservation are invited to wait in a beautifully decorated mall corridor with comfortable airconditioning and thematic artwork. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike. I had curry fish with rice, as well as vegetable soup. My friend tried the thin cut steak with Chinese soup. They were all exquisite.Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. The chefs use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply delightful. The restaurant also offers a wonderful drink menu, and they offer one of the best soup in the region. The drinks are pricey but surely worth sampling.I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is brilliant.
I feel nostalgic when I dine in this restaurant as it brings back memories about how delicious Malaysian food are.The waitress is very friendly as well. Recommend this place.
Sedap la! Really tasty nasi lemak and appreciate the authenticity. Rice was fragrant (coconut for sure and maybe also pandan), sambal was addictive and nice touch with the banana leaf liner on the bottom. So happy to discover this place.. ?
I’m from Singapore and was craving Singapore food so badly. Came to Toronto from Ottawa for a food trip. We ordered take out. Their Nasi Lemak and chicken rice brought back beautiful food memories from home. Their sambal chili and ikan bilis in the Nasi Lemak dish really hit the spot for me.I only gave them 4/5 because I’m a foodie from Singapore and of course I ate many extremely delicious food in Singapore. But this place is definitely worth a shot if you love Singapore food and want to have some in Canada because I know it’s pretty hard to find Singapore food here.Thank you Canteen for bringing some Singapore food to Toronto! It brought a smile to my face!
The nasi lemak is really good. It’s definitely got a kick to it (which is delicious)and they’re generous with their portions. If you’re hankering for nasi lemak downtown - totally recommend it!
Eat there many times before pandemic. Hopefully they will pull through this hard times. This is the only place that serves good Malaysian cuisine in downtown area. Love this place but I still support them by taking out. Good luck. Not do mention food is tasty and the owners and staff were very friendly too
