Very impressed. Me and my girl friend have tried alot of the shawarma/kabob places in Scarborough and Toronto. This place is definitely in the top 3 in the city. I got the sumaq plate, 3 different kinds of kabobs, all were really good, chicken was a bit dry, but to be expected with breast. 2 different rices, one was carrot/raisins style and the other was more seasoned. garlic potatos. tandoor bread was awesome. A nice salad and hummus and garlic sauce. All for $23. Portion sizes were very good, flavors were all really good. Girlfriend said her chicken shawarma was possibly the best she's ever had. The garlic potatos were very good. We definitely recommend it, and will be going back alot
One word: ELEVATED.Everything about Sumaq is ELEVATED compared to other shawarma places.I ordered my chicken shawarma wrap "The Tik Tok Way" -- with pickles, garlic, coleslaw, fries and pomegranate sauce.QUALITY - the chicken was so delicious - straight off the spit with a nice flavour. Garlic sauce was less mayo-y and more garlicy - delicious! And last but not least, there is a lady behind the counter making the bread from scratch! And this bread was then greased and grilled to perfection for a crispy exterior and soft interior. They also use crispy-coated fries inside their wraps and for side orders.SERVICE - I called in my order and they had it perfectly ready on time with a smile. Everyone working here was super friendlyPORTION SIZE - I ordered a shawarma wrap combo (wrap+fries+drink) and was completely stuffed by the end.VALUE/PRICE - very well-priced considering how great the quality is. The wrap by itself is $9 and as I mentioned above, is very filling. Conclusion: I have tried MANY shawarma places around the GTA...a LOT. And none come anywhere near Sumaq. This place is not near me, but I will be making the drive again and again for this experience.
Sorry if this is a disappointment for some, however this is far from the best Shawarma!Positive : chicken was very fresh also were the other ingredientsPrice : reasonableSize : what it should beNegative: I couldn't see much taste to this, everything tasted fresh but with lack of taste.Bread: they didn't have and didn't bother to make their own bread , while the place was so busy with customers . So it was just a pita bread.Service : cashier was not really welcoming , which is off as I heard about the amazing customer service,Why 3 Star ?Because of all the hype out there my hopes was so much higher for this place, so unfortunately this disappointed me. Maybe I will give them another try to get a friendlier welcome and tastier shawarma.
Best food ever , delivery fast
Lived most of my early childhood in Kuwait and our go to restaurant an iraqi kebab restaurant and ever since we migrated here over 16 years ago we've been on a hunt for authentic iraqi kebabs. We found one in Ottawa (Ottawa Kebab) very close to the taste and in Toronto even though we tried many Iraqi kebab places this small but cousy spot takes the cake for very similar taste.Taste: 9.3/10 (kebabs were juicy and tender. Chicken skewer were extremly tatsty but lacked a bit in lamb skewers, a bit dry)Value (VOM) : 9/10 (reasonably priced)Staff: The order taking lady is a delight to talk to very accomodating and cheerful.Ambiance: Mainly self serve take out kinda spot with some tables and chairs to sit and eat if you wish so cannot rate ambianceThings to improve IMHO:1) The bread is super tasty and authentic but MUSTbe served hot ( they warmed it up for us for nothing negative). If serves hot will make 9.3 to 10.2) Must have the signature Iraqi Kehwa for it to be a full experience. Not negatives just suggestionsWill surely be back many many many many times. ;)
I follow blogTO on Facebook and I saw a video post on this restaurant. After watching, I have been meaning to come East to Scarborough. As an absolute fan of shawarma (I have eaten Lebanese, Egyptian and Syrian), it was time to give Iraqi food a try, especially because of the outstanding reviews here on Google. It was busy inside and we place our order. One Chicken Shawarma platter and one Chicken Shawarma wrap to go. The associate who assembled our order was so nice. Ready in about 5 to 7 minutes, we were gone! Eating the platter, truly delicious. It was reminiscent of Johnny's Shawarma on Kennedy and Ellesmere. I kept on eating and eating. Loved also the pita chips that were sprinkled on top. The only thing I found (and this is just my taste preference), the garlic and hummus were too smooth and mild (not as much action packed flavour like the whole dish). The potatoes were also tremendousy sour. But again, that is my taste. I would go with more rice and not get the potatoes. My wife really enjoyed the wrap, loved and was raving about the fleshly made pita. Delicious and she was getting her parents to try it! I guarantee I will be back again when I am in Scarborough and will try more things on the menu! Excellent job!!
Scarborough is blessed with kabob restaurants and middle-eastern foods, but I need to give this place a shoutout.A key to note here is that their meats are cooked on charcoal, which adds a distinct and unforgettable flavour to the food. What are the odds that an order of kabob, tikka, and chicken would all come out perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy? Very high if you order from Sumaq. I ordered a mixed platter during a busy time of the day, and not only was I amazed by their fast paced environment, but specifically the quality of the food. Simply one of the top 3 kabob restaurants in the GTA hands down. Every element of the platter was delicious, nothing overbearing or heavily seasoned.Must say, I made a long drive to try this place and I’m glad I did. Highly recommended. Perhaps not the best place to dine in, but that should be the least of your concerns. Food quality is exceptional.
Smallest shawarma wrap i've had in my life - literally smaller than a pop can. Each bite is just doughy bread, there's almost no filling, and when you do get chicken it's super bland. Skimpy on the sauce too even when requested extra. Garlic potatoes were undercooked and also did not taste very good. Ate 1 and that was about it. Will not be ordering again. I recommend Albasha for your next shawarma as they are far superior and also cheaper (currently temporarily closed which is why we tried Sumaq this time). Disappointed.
Every time my family and I come to Sumaq we are never disappointed. Everything from the food to the staff is excellent! The tandoori bread is like no other, baked fresh in front of you. It’s light weight and fluffy not like the other tandoori breads that are extremely thick and hard to chew. I love that they constantly refresh their toppings when they make your plate.
Was told that these guys make one of the best shawarma's in Toronto so I decided to go give them a try. I must say there's a lot of shawarma shops in the area. I went to this specific one and I have to say it was very very good. The flavors their special sauces and the chicken coming right off the spit makes it very good The price point was good The service was good.
