The Sugar Marmalade is a cute, small dessert shoppe that a friend and I visited on a weekday evening. They had a variety of sweets like waffles, pudding, smoothies, and even small meals like squid balls! Sadly, the latter was out of stock, so I had ordered the Takoyaki balls, and my friend ordered the Oreo egg waffles. Ordering was done via QR code, with COVID protocols being in place. The employees there were present, actively engaging with the customers and assisted us in getting our orders through. The place wasn’t busy too, despite it being around 4PM at that time we arrived. The pricing was a bit on the higher end, but my order came exactly as pictured and the Takoyaki tasted great! My friend’s order also came out the same, and we finished all our food. There are washrooms available, and I loved how clean, organized, and nicely decorated the place was. Payment was fast and easy, and I managed to snatch a promotion in-store attached as a photo with this review. Overall, the Sugar Marmalade is a great café for socializing and dessert with friends. I highly suggest visiting this café once whenever you get the chance to, or if dropping by the plaza.
The food was very good from what I had. The sauce with the chicken was amazing. The fried dough with the condensed milk is mandatory. But my favourite part was probably the mango drink. In the photo its a different drink I think an oreo one. The mango is better.
We were so excited to try this place, but it was a total let down. The images are not representative of what you get. Don't bother order anything hot, it comes luke warm. We ordered 4 desserts, only 1 was what we expected. This dessert was described to have condensed milk...it was whipped cream and cookies. The whipped cream was hard...it wasn't made fresh.
Ordered two Mille crepe slices through Uber Eats. They both arrived frozen and tasted old. If you also notice, the yellow one (durian) was significantly under-sized - 75% usual size. These desserts were a low low price of only $27.27 after taxes... I will never be eating here again. Check out Bake Code or Miss Durian for better Mille Crepe cakes.Toronto DineSafe health inspection should be looking here.
If I could give it less I would. I use to love this place and hanged out it here a few times. However on my last visit it was not pleasant at all. The food is alright, BUT WAIT TILL U SEE A BOX THAT'S KEEPING ALL THE PLASTIC PLATES THAT'S USED FOR SERVING THE CUSTOMERS IN THE ONLY WASHROOM. The washroom let me just be straight up honest it was nasty the mop was there in a bin with wet used water already and beside it was the box's. BESIDE. THE. TOILET. This is very scary specially because of Covid. I would not and warn others of this.
The egg waffle was really good. The pancake was light and tasty. Be careful with the assorted fruits, if you are not a fan of the infamous Durian. They also sell many savoury items on their menu which is great.
Sugar Mar malade is part of AsialiciousTO and since we were feeling like getting dinner and dessert it seemed like a good idea to go with the $10 and $30 specials. The $10 special included taro black glutinous rice with pearl delight and mixed golden sago. The $30 special included 3 cup chicken on rice, Taiwanese style minced pork on rice and 2 honey green teas.Posted on the window and door of the restaurant are signs and QR codes for ordering takeout. The sign instructs you to order online and then wait 10-15 minutes for your order. I wasn't sure if the AsialiciousTO specials would be available from the QR code menu so we went in to inquire. The staff accepted our order and told us it'd be approximately 20 minutes for our order to be ready. When paying the staff said that since this was a special offer only cash would be accepted as payment. He also took back the receipt so we were unsure how we would claim our order when it was ready. I suppose we were the only ones to order during this time so he knew who to give the food to but what happens when it's busy? The 2 meals were okay and nothing special. I will say that they give you a lot of rice! The green teas were too sweet for my liking and tasted more like sugar than tea but that's pretty normal for these types of drinks. The black glutinous rice dessert hit the spot for me. Could be that I haven't had it in a very long time. I did find it on the expensive side and can't see myself paying regular price for it. Overall it was a very average meal.
The quality of Sugar Marmalade as certainly dipped over the years, which does not justify the increase in price. Especially now that they’re are more options elsewhere for what they offer. The service at this location is not particularly friendly to add, and they still use single use plastics containers/cutlery even tho you are dining in, creating a ton of unnecessary waste.
You won’t expect to find such good food at a place that seems to be a dessert shop. I have heard of sugar marmalade before but mostly about their dessert. Then I tried their kimchi fries and popcorn chicken and it was so tasty! Guys, if you are a fan of kimchi, try the kimchi fries. So good!
Good variety of Asian desserts. I had the whipped coffee and it was absolutely amazing on the hot summer night!
