They have reopened their full menu now (even the desserts). Every thing we ordered is fresh and good this time except the beef sashimi is noticeably not fresh. It's not very crowded and there should be way enough servers (I think they hired more people than before) but the servers are very inexperienced and slow. They made a mistake on our reservation info as well which would have been negligible if it wasn't combined with the service later. But they changed their ordering system to without needing a server to approve on our tablet, so it is easier to order in small batches now than before.
First time being here - a friend suggested and we all went as a party of 9. I was certain that they wouldn't have any tables, since we requested to have a table at around 8pm for 8:30pm (over the phone). As soon as I called them, they were very quick to say that they didn't have any seats. However, when they heard we had 9 people, they paused, and then said "yeah yeah yeah" and told us a table would be ready at 8:30. Well, that was not the case. We arrived, and we waited almost 45 minutes for a table despite being told that the next table was ours. HOWEVER, I will give the benefit of the doubt that we barely gave advance notice - even though they should have been honest and told me that they did not have a table.Important to note: I did make it known to them that I was upset at how they weren't honest to us about the table being ready, so they gave us all unlimited drinks. We had this lychee drink, not sure what it's called, but it was blue and you had to mix it to drink. It's pretty good, I suggest giving it a try. They also gave us 10% cash discount - not sure if this applies to everyone or if it was just because we had a poor experience getting the table.I was quite impressed with the food. I ordered a lot of the pressed sushi and the torched sushi - lots of flavour and was made very well. The regular sushi quality, however, was mediocre and wasn't anything special. We ordered a few basic rolls (salmon avocado, spicy salmon), and the rolls were just huge - either a lot of rice or the piece of fish was triple the size as the fish. Sashimi was ice cold, and it felt like I was biting into a cake, so I wasn't very happy with that. The sirloin steak was very nice though - came with roasted garlic chips and the combination of flavours was excellent. Dessert was okay, they have a wide array of it. I was pleased that they had the ginger milk though!Overall, the experience was a little bit rough at the start, but we were all satisfied with the experience after we left. Food came out at a slower pace, but some came faster than others. 12% service charge was included for us (not sure if this applies to smaller tables), so I guess this service charge also paid for this experience. Owner (or manager) helped collect the money, and was very organized and friendly since some of us paid cash and some of us paid using card. I would come back, maybe with a smaller party next time!
It is recommended to have reservations for peak hours dining. Service was great but some orders did not go through, and often we had to get up and look for a server to get water refills. Can't be helped since the restaurant is super busy. Food is great and delicious.
Haven’t been here in a few years, but the food is still great and probably the best AYCE Sushi you can find in Scarborough
I've been coming here since they opened and I've also visited their Don Mills location as well. Came here recently with our family of 5. The service and the food quality has definitely declined and not sure if that's just COVID but I do expect the quality and service to be the same or some what close specially when the price has increased. You order through an ipad which is very convenient. I would say they change or update the layout because it does get confusing when it only shows part of the category of the menu without some what knowing that the rest is just hidden cuz sometimes it won't scroll to the the rest of the menu. If you're new to the place and not familiar with the menu you would think 5 items are only being shown is what they have in that category when there's like 21. Also, just FYI they do include the tip on the bill so in case you've budgeted yourself to eat here.
For all you can eat sushi Matsuda has always been consistent with quality. Doesn't matter where I go for AYCE .... I always end up leaning towards Matsuda. Some of my must order items are their fried chicken wings, chicken skewers, herb salmon, and honestly so much more! The sashimi is always fresh and I know the quality and service I'm expecting. Whenever I crave for AYCE Matsuda is the spot I lean towards. Highly recommend to give Matsuda a shot to satisfy your AYCE cravings!
We've always enjoyed coming here! Staff is courteous and cordial, the place is well-lit and clean, and the food is really good, although the portions seem smaller lately...Service is quite prompt, and the selection is very good.Update: (December 7th, 2021)Finally returned, and it felt like coming home! The manager was very warm, welcoming, and wonderfully engaging! The staff was extremely courteous and pleasant. The dinner menu had terrific options, and the portions were better than most AYCE in the city.I highly recommend Matsuda!(Check out their other locations, like their newest one by McCowan & Sheppard!)
Probably one of the more popular ayce sushi franchises in the GTA! You can order through a tablet which is very convenient. Service is fairly quick in comparison to other ayce sushi restaurants. Aside from sushi, I love going here for their Garlic Beef steak cubes and dessert!
Hostess would not accept my vaccination code and said the code doesn’t show date of birth. She fails to know the rules and the ontario website clearly states that the date of birth doesn’t have to be available on the vaccine receipt. Please have your your hostess read the Ontario website. I pit a screenshot underneath for your convenience so other customers don’t have to deal with the inconvenience you cause everyone.Food was good thoughService was okay, never came to refill drinks.
Quality of food and taste of the food here really went down since I’ve been here prior to covid lockdowns early 2020… Sashimi salmon and beef tataki with a handful of the other sushi selections tastes bland and not close to as good before..
