*EDITED - SEE BELOW* Long time customer. Quality and flavor has considerably declined as of late. I don't know if I'll eat here anymore. For the price it is no longer a "good deal".I went back against my better judgement only to find the management seems to have changed! I got the Chicken 88, the Shrimp in Lobster sauce, the Shanhai noodles, and the white rice (complimentary). All items were MUCH higher quality than before, serving sizes are back up to where they are, and the salt has been reduced a fair bit. Flavor is beautiful again. I'm changing my review from 3 Star to 5 Star.You will buy dinner tonight, and have plenty for lunch tomorrow.
Honestly I'm not sure about some of these low reviews because my experience has always been pretty great here. The food is delicious (but perhaps it's because I'm not picky?). Everything we ordered tasted great and came out piping hot, very fresh which I loved. I don't think I've ever eaten somewhere where the food was that hot (temp wise). I wish all restaurants were like that. :) Only reason for the 4 star is because the shrimp aren't always deveined properly or at all, which is kind of gross.

Went twice and both time bad experience. First time, ordered lunch combo. It was not warm enough , tasted bland. On Second visit, after a long wait time We could order soup, prawn fried rice with a chicken dish. They served us Veg/egg fried rice. When asked about it , they just took away dish to bring it back with 5/6 boiled prawns on the rice!! No apologies, no asking if we needed anything else. Taste was below average.Not going back again.
We order chilli chicken it came out boil chicken with almost white sauce. We order chilli fish it came out after our dinner. We order calamari its stink. At the door its say halal but they serve full alcohol. Service is so bad.
China cottage used to my favorite restaurant until 2019. Sadly, after the pandemic, the quality seems to have taken a beating. Food isn't as delicious, clearly shows the kitchen team was replaced (understandable due to the pandemic).I gave a few chances, just because they have always been my most preferred Hakka place. Sadly, they were a disappointment all the time.I truly hope they retrain their kitchen staff and up the quality. And if they do, I will be back
Have been a loyal customer for years. Love their lunch specials. They need to bring back their soup option for lunch specials! Spring rolls are okay. Favourite dish - chili chicken and Szechuan fish :) Yum!
Super tasty and delicious food! Their Pad Thai is my fave. I wish they would be on more food delivery apps
An absolute gem. Small and quanit, but the food is amazing. I prefer dining in options over their takeout. Staff is friendly. Have been coming here for the last 10+ years.
Most Hakka places are known for having 1-2 great dishes that people go for. With China Cottage, it has a large variety across the board, specially with a couple of unique flavors such as 88 or Mumbai.Definitely recommend their Manchurian Fried Rice and Veg Pakora 88 (or chicken option). Chilli Chicken and Schezuan Chicken are great too.Cottage Special Soup is delicious too.Overall, if you have a big order, I’d go here.
