Since years I used to buy mainly sweets, thali and chaats. Customer service was good before. But now a days on cash counter very rude guys are working.Owner keep increasing price but don't teach customer service to their staff. The person who takes order is "ALWAYS" rude on phone or in person. They don't even know what the customer service is. Their attitude is like "buy if you like or go somewhere else". That's ridiculous. In Tikki chat they add too much raw onions n carrots, which is unnecessary n tastes so bad. I ordered medium spicy tikki chat and thay even didn't add sweet chutney. Omg ?
Excellent food, price and service! After coming here about 3 times a week since January 2022, I can safely say that A1 Sweets is easily one of the best Indian/Punjabi vegetarian restaurants in the GTA (I would put them in a Top 5 or Top 10 list).I always order their thali and absolutely love the quality, consistency, variety, taste and value. For $10.72 (taxes included) you get; made-to-order roti or naan, jeera rice, raita, a small salad, 3 curries and carrot halwa or gulab jamun. The meal can be vegan by simply substituting items with animal products for those without, which there are enough of to have an enjoyable meal. All the food is prepared how it should, the curries aren't greasy (minimal oil used, great if you're a health conscious person), they all taste good, are kept at the right temperature, they all have rich and vibrant colors, and just about everything you could ask for from a place charging $10-11 for a meal.I wait an average of 10 minutes (5 min at best) for my order, mostly for the made-to-order naan, which I find to be reasonable. The staff are friendly, respectful, attentive and hard working. Décor is actually nice, modern and very welcoming for what's mostly a take out restaurant. But they do have a small dining area, and a highly detailed Punjabi themed mural adjacent to it (I thought it was neat).Clientele can be diverse at times from what I observed and the staff does well at making people from different backgrounds feel welcome at trying Indian cuisine . But most people walking through the door are Indian.I actually have a hard time finding something comparable from another restaurant in Scarborough and even Markham, and thus end up coming here more often then I originally thought I would. If you got this far and haven't tried their food, give it a shot.
2022 April 3★While this place is a favorite of friends, I find it's ok and the typical faire of Indian food. The samosa is ok. Certainly better than done, but I've had better. Crispy and the filling is good with the chutney. The Thali is ok - though again, nothing extraordinary and is just ok.
Ridiculous price increases here now. Chana Batura that consisted of Chana, spiced potatoes, carrot salad and 2 Batura that used to be $3.99 on Wednesdays and $4.99 on every other day is now $6.99 (everyday price) AND... They don't even give the spiced potatoes anymore! I understand prices have gone up but this is a ridiculous increase and why take away the potatoes now? This is just not right no wonder the place is mostly empty now.
Food - I consider the place as not a restaurant but a sweet shop; food is average and nothing to write about. Same as all Indian sweet shops serve in the area, worthy of filling the stomach but not the heart.Reviewing Paneer pakodas- the one on the left are from A1, and the ones on the right are from adjoining Bengali sweet shop.It tastes exactly the same. The difference is A1 does not cut the pakodas, is 50c cheaper, and serves mint chutney. Mint chutney is average, and so are the pakodas.
Malai Kofta is mouth watering - literally a dream to eat!Their home made khalakaand is FANTASTIC too!Everything else is here okay!Good priced thali :)
Samosa chat is really bad. Just onions and carrots no yogurt or anything
Message to Owners - stop making pathetic food. i bought a large order of Pao Bhaji, Veggie Thalis and Chole Bhatures - everything was bland and no taste. it tasted like cheap indian railways food. Only Samosas were good. The staff is trying to save money by giving only one piece of paneer or one kadi pakoda. either stop doing this kind of business or increase your prices and serve quality food. The Pao Bhaji Tasted like watery kaddu, very poor. Curries taste like just tinned tomato bland puree. Don’t hesitate to increase your prices but please server good quality food.
Went to get kadhi pakora and palak paneer, guy at the front was just giving 4-5 pieces of paneer and rest palak in a large container and when I asked where is paneer , he showed me a single piece in their container LOLWhen we had kadhi at home, it was all BESAN , there is no Filing inside of anything- I guess that is the reason why they are always empty and next door is always full. I think it was my bad decision to go with them. And whole Scarborough knows about this owner’s attitude.
Ordered take out for ready made thali. All sabji and daal already in warmer section. They took 30 min to cook 4 chapati and 5 pori. Whats the use of order precooked thaali if takes 30 min, it's the same time a regular restaurants takes for order when they literally serving in table.10-15 min for fresh 4 rotis and 5 puris is understandable, but 30 min is too much.Veg thaalis were tasty, puri was soft, bhaaji was ok ok.Last time i ordered with combination of kofta , kadhi pakoda and shahi paneer. Pakoda in kadi was hard and gravy for kofta n shahi paneer was too sweet. This time we went for palak paneer, dal makhni, chole. Much better than the previous combination.
