Golden Court is an ageless wonder in the Richmond Hill restaurant scene. It's been around for two decades as a pillar along Hwy 7. We often take its presence for granted, opting for newer places to dine among the plethora of options. But what does it take to be a local staple? I guess it's top-notch dim sum, along with dinner & banquet meals. For dinner, our Diced Beef with Honey and Chilli Pepper was akin to well-done steak with some chew to draw out the sweet sauce & meat juice. Plenty of broccoli & cashews accompanied the dish. Stir Fried Grouper Brisket was served in a sizzling claypot with mushrooms. I enjoyed the crispy coating & teriyaki flavour but cuts were too bony w/o much fillet. Stir Fried Shrimps with cashew nuts was a lighter dish with heaping portions of fresh veggies for good contrast. We had a bit of trouble scouring the menu for something that tickled our fancy. Dinner dishes didn't blow us away, but the attentive service was pleasant with frequent plate changes. I think they could do a better job of advertising their seasonal seafood variety. Sparse tables were seated with regulars who knew the staff. Dish plates were huge, so we were stuffed after the taro sago, mango jelly, and almond cookies offered for dessert. All in all, a mixed review after setting foot at the Golden Court again. Its entrance is anchored by stone lions & a fancy interior door for a grand impression, while the decor is reminiscent of classic Cantonese restaurants that serve as banquet halls. Such details perhaps we overlooked while competing for dim sum in the packed house on past visits!
Instagram: @tiff.eatzBeen coming here for years and the food has always been consistent! Really enjoy coming for dim sum but I prefer coming for dinner! Their dinner menu has a lot of variety & some tasty fusion dishes (that you can request if you’d like). Portions are great and food is traditional chinese cuisine!Sweet & Sour Pork , Salted Fish Fried Rice, Maggi Shrimp w glass noodles (my personal fave!! Highly recommend)
Instagram @chopstixinthesix Follow Us!!We got Har Gow, Beef Siu Mai, Steamed Bean Curd Sheet w/ Oyster Sauce, Steamed Rice Roll w/ Crispy Dough Fritters and Pan Deared Thin Pancake w/ Minced Pork & Green Onion. Har Gow was loaded with Shrimps, so good to go with yellow mustard! Beef Siu Mai was okay… Steamed Bean Curd Sheet Roll was filled with Minced Pork and Veggies! Steamed Rice Roll had Cilantro and Dried Shrimps on it, so it tasted good, but the Dough Fritters in it were a bit soggy… Thin Pancake had crispy edges so it was great!
Came here after we were told there was a 1 hr wait at Yu Seafood. I expected the place to be of a typical dim sum spot in Richmond Hill so we decided to give it a try. Food is overpriced given the quality; it’s almost the same price as Yu seafood but the food is way worse and they don’t have much selection. Ordered a plain congee with fried dough sticks and the congee tasted worse than tap water; the squid tentacles also had no colour to them and looked so unappetizing. At the end, we asked for the bill and one of our dishes still didn’t come yet, assuming they probably forgot, we said we didn’t want it anymore, the boss had a rude attitude and said that it coming soon and if we didn’t want it it would be thrown away, so we waited another 5 minutes for it to come. I gave two stars because their salted egg yolk glutinous rice ball was actually very good, but other than that, I’d go somewhere else if I’m in the Richmond Hill area.
Food is tasty. We ordered a lamb stew pot for take out. We added some spam and other fixings to the lamb pot.A bit dated inside. They seem to focus on wedding and other banquets.Strong disinfect cleaning agent smell when we walked in, probably just done cleaning. They do check COVID vaccine passport for each and every customer.
Great foodGreat serviceVery clean all aroundIf you looking for either dim sum in the afternoon or authentic Chinese dinner, you can definitely swing by this restaurantForgot to take pictures last Saturday!
Extremely good dim sum with large portions. That goes for everything from shrimp dumplings to char Siu bao. Be warned that tea costs money.
Food is excellent! Staff are friendly and very hard working. They strive to give your the best of everything. They care about your experience. Dumplings are wonderfully plump and properly filled. Served hot like it should. I enjoyed that dim sum lunch and I plan to go back very soon! This time I'll take pictures! Also...not to be confused with Golden court plaza.
Went here over a decade ago and happy to report that they still do good dim sum. A dish runs between $4-7. Nice decor and clean washrooms. Found that it was saltier than I remembered and certainly saltier than other dim sum places I've been to. They take the double vaccination policy for entry seriously so make sure you bring proof of vaccine.
Good food fast service great prices, but a bit too salty
