We’ve been here more than once. Food is amazing, servers are great and atmosphere is awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant. They’re family friendly and very accommodating for allergies. Astoria, is one of our favourite dine in restaurants.
Staff were friendly. Food - portions were large, lamb and beef were cooked perfectly (rare) and everything was flavourful. They dont have gyros. The difference between a reg and a large plate is the amt of protein: 8oz for regular and 12oz for large. Prices were a bit steep though portion sizes were big. We had to wait quite a bit though the restaurant wasnt that busy, thankfully we asked for the kids meals to come out first. Kids portion size was also quite large.
Was going for Deli after picking up car from mechanic but they close dining area at 3pm. Decided on Greek food as an alternative and we went to our go-to place, Astoria in Richmond Hill. We ordered 2-Large Pork Souvlaki Dinners with (Grilled Pork Skewer W/Tzatziki Sauce, Seasoned Rice, Roasted Greek Potatoes, Traditional Greek Salad) and sides of Garlic Bread. Meal was delicious!!!! Found out cook was a female and kudos to the chef. Salad was magnificently dressed with a good hit of vinaigrette and the Meat was so tender & perfectly charred and the sides closed the deal. Recommend highly.
There were a lot of tables available so we got seated immediately. The service was great…Devon was very friendly and fast. The saganaki was tasty, although the battered calamari was terrible. We’ve ordered it at other locations and it’s usually fresh and larger pieces that were very tasty…guess they switched suppliers as this looked like frozen calamari (all the pieces looked too uniform and it wasn’t tasty. The serving at other locations were larger, so this surprised me. Too bad since one person ordered the calamari dinner, so this was a big disappointment. All the other entrées were delicious. My lamb was very tender and the 2 chops were filling…3 would be nicer. The pork and chicken souvlaki dinners were also tasty, as were the wraps. It would be nice though if you could order a 2nd wrap, without having to order the meal (didn’t want the 2nd order of fries); we went to another Greek restaurant and you could do this. The Greek salads that came with the souvlaki dinners were huge and covered with lots of feta cheese, so that was nice. Yet, it would be nice if there was more than just one olive and one slice of tomato; they really skimped on this…just lots of lettuce. I liked eating here, but the others weren’t as impressed because of the things I mentioned.
The food here is excellent and the staff are friendly. However, every time I place an order for pickup I am disappointed. I called my order in, arrived 20 min later and it was not even started. They were busy and under-staffed but it takes a min to throw a skewer on. My order was simple, 1 - 10 ounce chicken skewer and small salad. I waited for a few minutes and was told they could have an 8 ounce skewer ready quicker, so I said sure. I got home, and weighed my chicken as it did not look like 8 ounces. I understand there is shrinkage, maybe 2 ounces...my chicken weighed 4.4 ounces. That is not the first time this has happened at this location. Totally unacceptable - quantity vs price. Telling customers they are paying for 8 ounces of chicken when they are really getting 4.4. I called to express my disappointment, he said they weigh them in at 8 ounces and there is nothing they can do. They totally lost my business.
We dine-in on a quiet Tuesday night. Server was attentive and food was great. Be sure to check out their Monday/Tuesday takeout specials, they have great offers
I star for the atmosphere it's a nicely decorated space. I star for friendly service. That's where the good ends and the bad begins. If you come here expecting it to be like the Danforth location in quality you will very soon see it isn't.Quite possibly the worst food I've had in a while. Maybe it was an off night but I can never go back after the meal I had to give it a second chance. I'm sure if I offered that meal to a dog it wouldn't want it either.
Great place and great food. it was hot and fresh and would definitely go back
This review is for a dine in experience, not take out. The food was not very good at all. Considering there were only 2 other tables eating in the restaurant at 12:30pm there is really no excuse underwhelming food.1) Village Salad: was plate of giant tomatoes quartered with some cucumbers, olives and a couple of onions. There was a slab of soft feta cheese on top and it was covered in a puddle of oil.2) Fried Calamari: giant rings that were very chewy with a weird dusting/seasoning. Tasted like frozen bagged calamari from a supermarket, only worse.3) Kids chicken fingers and fries: these were good, but how hard is it to mess up fries and chicken fingers that are tossed in the deep fryer?4) Chicken souvlaki pita: dressed with a couple of oversized tomatoes and onions, completely lacking flavor.5) Chicken souvlaki skewer: chicken was seasoned OK and cooked correctly (not dry).6) Tzatziki: consistency was too thick and way too much garlic. The bathrooms where not very well kept either. The meal above cost $95 including tip. For the money would expect a lot better. Only redeeming quality of this lunch was the service which was pretty good which is why they got 2 stars.
Best Greek food in town. Always fresh and tasty. Service is always fast and friendly !Definitely going back
