Place is fairly small and arranged in a way that makes it hard to flag down server sometimes (depends on where you sit). But spacious booths and is able to accommodate small and big tables. Washrooms are fairly clean, there are two individual stalls. Place overall is very tight and not a lot of aisle space (not handicap friendly). The place can get loud on weekends since it is so small, but place has a nice vibe to it.Upon arrival, served hot tea, and salad after ordering. Salad is tasty and fresh. Tea is heart warming. Sashimi is so so sooo fresh here and absolutely melts in your mouth. Never disappointed when we order the trays, only thing is certain sashimis are not included in the smaller trays. The big bang don is one of my favourite dishes and is also always excellent. The black diamond roll is a favourite for my friends and is always ordered. Staff is friendly but could be more attentive as they rarely come to check on you once you have ordered… Have to stop a staff walking down your aisle to ask for tea refills etc.Overall, excellent sashimi place that I highly recommend.
I have been to Aka-oni Richmond Hill for a few times, but this is the first time I write review. We ordered 2 sashimi tray, extra 12 pieces of Norway salmon sashimi a la carte, lobster roll, eel roll and 2 Ramen. Actually all the food are extremely good. The sashimi is thickly cut, way better than most of the other Japanese restaurant. Both Ramen are very good, but the soup is bit less. The lobster roll and eel roll also are a must have items. They have many speciality that other places do not offer, and the quality is always one of the top in Richmond Hill. Price definitely on the higher side, but it is worth a try!
Overall food is good. Will come again
Very popular Thornhill restaurant, reservations a must, 90 minute limit so keep your conversions to a minimum and eat fast, lolGreat happy vibe, service staff very helpful and efficient, booths have a hanging cloth/curtain which gives you some privacy.Huge drink menu, large Sake variety, I prefer the hot house Sake, so smoothThe "manager's special" sushi (unagi eel/foie gras) was to die for, surprisingly the different flavors blended very well together.Same goes with the raw octopus, seaweed and freeze dried peas. All 3 eaten together offers an interesting texture and flavor profile. Skip the normal appetizers and be adventurous, your tongue and taste buds will do a happy dance.Pork belly skewer could have used further grilling to render the fatty bitsAll in all, this was a nice casual outing with great food and drinks
Great quality fish and servers were very attentive and welcoming. My family came here for my mom's birthday and we had such an amazing experience. We got the karaage, seared ebi salmon roll, takara tray, 3 x salmon sashimi, sake clam, California Don, aka-oni house ramen, and the hokkaido king crab milky ramen. Every dish was really well presented and again, really good quality. It was a bit on the pricey side but would recommend giving this place a try!We were also given ice cream at the end of our dinner. We got the yuzu and black sesame flavours.
Love their rolls here! This place is so different from all the other Japanese places and also love their ambiance! We ordered a sashimi platter, and a roll and a scallop& uni carpaccio dish between the 2 of us. Loved everything! Most interesting surprise of the night was the deep fried shrimp heads from the sashimi platter!

The dishes at this restaurant is basically deserving 5 stars regarding the presentation and the tastes.Just the service with a young male server seemed very off from the vibes, I felt his impatience for our questions about the menu. He took the tablet (menu) away from my husband's hand without showing his courtesy (or saying any word), then he assumed we were all set. I think that's pretty rude despite his intention and needs to be addressed. The rest of the servers are fine, I guess just we were not lucky enough.
Wow, the sushi and sashimi here is very tasty, they are fresh and very Japan like. Even their wasabi is grounded from root, not powder. Lots of sake selection, highly recommended. Good decor, not cheap but reasonable. This has to be the best sushi restaurant run by the Chinese.
Food is excellent though price is a bit pricey. Service is good.
