It is very sad... precocious this was a wonderful place. Now, it is a shame. Only one server/hosted handling all the customrs. If management were to hire another server. We likely would have received our drinks and food much quicker. The poor server was so overwhelmed that it was 30 minutes after seating she got to come to to take our drink orders. Another 20 minutes to take our food orders. Our table ordered the salmon, roast beef and burgers. All was overlooked and dry... we didn't have the heart to let the server know as she was sweet and overworked.Unfortunately, this restaurant has seen better days. We won't be coming back.
So I had originally come to this restaurant several years ago because of the location and vicinity to Frenchman’s bay. Wasn’t the greatest experience because the service was sloppy and the food being bland.Fast forward to 2022 it looks like much hasn't changed. The Bad:- Youre left waiting for a long period of time to be seated- wait staff don't manage the tables well and often left tables sitting and waiting on them- waiting 30 mins to get two drinks- Drinks and Draught were flat & stale- Food was bland and lacked flavour- Very limited Menu and limited optionsThe Good:- Second floor Patio View of the waterfront- Vicinity to the waterfront- Dont need to make reservations and doesn't seem busy- Ample Parking- Renovations make the place look much better
This used to be a lovely, classy place, right on the marina. We booked many a birthday party and other functions and loved it. The owner is no longer there so the guy who owns the building took over. He clearly has no clue about cleanliness, ambience, keeping an attractive frontage (has overgrown with weeds, spider webs and dirt) or how to run a restaurant. We noticed tables were not wiped and sanitized between guests, food orders were not taken for 10-15 minutes due to understaffing and our order didn't come in 30 minutes so after touring what is no longer a restaurant decided we'd hate to see the state of the kitchen and cancelled our orders and left. I've been to bad restaurants but this is the worst in Durham region as far as I've experienced. The waitress said every table complains of the same issues. Felt bad for her. I suggested he watch restaurant rescue as he will not last a year if he doesn't hire some pros in the business. Location is gold mine right by the marina, beautiful view and really wish it got back to it's classy state because I'd go there often.
I don’t know if this is an effect of covid, but this place was dead on a Friday night (around dinner time). The issue was that despite being empty, there was really not a single person at the front desk to help us. We really stayed there for 15 minutes and NO ONE came to talk to us during that time… I mean, we were a group of 6 and you could really tell they needed the business. After asking the bartender several times for a hostess or any one really to take us to a table we got tired of waiting and left. It’s a shame really, the location by the water was really amazing…
server was very nice. She seemed apologetic at what she was asked to do there. i.e. I received a mohito that was made with bottled lime juice that is used for baking. I took it to the bar and said that it was undrinkable and she seemed embarrassed. The restaurant is very dirty, disgusting carpet on the stairs, Christmas decorations strewn on a landing in June. The food was frozen from a bag and nothing was fresh. Boring menu. The quaintness of the old restaurant was replaced with cheap tacky decor. It's a shame that a restaurant in such a prime location overlooking the marina with so much potential could be so bad.
I went here on the weekend, and despite being busy, I was still served in a timely manner. The male server was so polite and helped me choose what to eat, and his recommendation was amazing. Kudos to him and the cooks! They are all amazing! What a great staff and great restaurant!
Despite the reviews, I went and wasn't disappointed. The food and drinks were good. Our reservation was confusing, and they figured it out. Service was slow but I don't think they have a lot of staff right now. Bigger groups can't enjoy the upper outdoor deck area, so keep that in mind. Only downside was that we overheard one staff member berate a co-worker about pushing tables together on the deck space. Think that I'd rather not have heard that, and I felt sorry for the waitress. I would go again, especially on a warmer day.
Service was POOR...... had to wait a very long time for food and it wasn’t good.....the drinks are not strong and they didn’t taste like they put any alcohol at all!!! Also, Asian server was very rude to me and my family ..... we were seated on the patio and she came yelling at us not to sit there together ..... I've never been yelled at for sitting in a restaurant before.
The service was OK but the roast beef sandwich we had has maybe 2-3 oz of dry roast beef. It is not an $18 restaurant quality sandwich. For comparison a $4 craveable sandwich from Tim Hortons is bigger, tastier and superior in every way. In addition to that the dry coleslaw was right on the sandwich which is very odd. I have never placed a negative review before but this one deserved it.
Nachos were horrible. No cheese, about a tablespoon of ground beef, very little toppings and no salsa. The owners and cooks should go to a pub and order nachos to see how they should be prepared and served.Dirt on the floors and walls. Bathroom doors look like they haven't been wiped down ever.On a good note the beer was cold and serving staff was friendly
