The food was delicious, the portions are generous, but what made it 5 stars for me, was our amazing server, Dindi! Super friendly and attentive, she is a star! Thank you for a wonderful meal, delivered with panache! -Patti aka Meryl

It was a busy afternoon when we sat down at the terrace of Zak's in Ottawa. We enjoyed a few beers, the nacho's and the vegetarian burger. Our waitress was very hospitable.

We were here the first time, got a table fast. People who arrived around 6pm had to wait a very long time. Too less seats and waiter to handle the amount of customers. After we decided what to eat the waitress said she would come fast in just a second to take our order. It took around 5-10 min until she came again. After our order we didn't get any free water. Actually we got the food before we got something to drink. We had to ask for the water again otherwise I think we wouldn't have gotten any. We didn't got any cutlery, after we already ate a lot of the Burgers we got asked if we need cutlery. But we didn't need it. After a while we also realized that they forgot the free coleslaw and pickle they offer with each burger. We had to ask for this included side-dish and it too again around 5 min or more to get it. And then she brought it and without cutlery, we didn't necessarily need cutlery for the Burger but now definitely for the coleslaw salad. In the end we didn't eat the salad anymore because it took too much time to wait for cutlery. When we got up to get the check it again took again several minutes to get the check and then again couldn't pay directly. In-between the waitress did several other things, went in and out to bring others take-away boxes, at this time she could also have brought out the receipt. Someone else came later out with the debit/credit card reading machine for payment. Food was ok, nothing special It's good that you can choose several free toppings like: raw or fried onions, relish, mushrooms, pickle and others.... All in all we were not happy with the visit On the card the especially write down and mention that we should first talk to them before talking to your "followers", I understand that but we mentioned all the problems to the waitress and it didn't improve. Maybe that is a single problem but we also got wrong food send to our table before, that's a very small issue not a big deal and totally fine with me. But aren't the tables with numbers and the food is all ordered with an ipad so every order should be match to each table. I understand that the food and restaurants business is having a shortage of people/waiters/waitresses but the handling of all issues today was not good.

Great staff! Very friendly and prompt!

Nice kids' menu and absolutely delicious milkshakes. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but the food was great and the portions were HUGE! Felt like a proper American diner.

Had the nachos and they were absolutely delicious! My cousins had the milkshake and they were surprised how much milkshake they got, they absolutely loved it too! I recommend this place. I will definitely come back in the future!

I was served a peanut butter milkshake after making it extremely clear to my waitress that I have a deathly anaphylactic allergy to peanuts. When she placed the milkshake in front of me, she assured me they had taken every precaution to prevent cross contamination. But she gave me a full on peanut butter milk shake. The manager was a condescending unapologetic jerk who claimed it was my own fault because I was warned about cross contamination. This was not cross contamination. I was given an actual peanut butter milkshake such that I took 1 sip, spat it out immediately because it tasted like a spoonful of peanut butter and STILL went in to anaphylactic shock. All I tasted was peanuts. This was absolutely not an incident of cross contamination which refers to a tiny amount of peanut butter being left in the blender for example that I wouldn’t even taste. This was a full on PB milkshake with peanut butter all over the inside of the cup. The manager took no responsibility and denied that I was going into anaphylaxis and kept telling me it was my fault because I was warned about cross contamination. He assured me he would take the milkshake off my bill as if I was going to eat there after what just happend?? I immediately went to the hospital and was treated for anaphylactic shock. Avoid this restaurant!!!!!!! It is horrible and certainly not safe for anyone with food allergies. Never eating here ever ever EVER again.

Visited while we were travelling in Ottawa. The food was great and loved the milkshakes and variety! We went on a weeknight and were seated right away. Food came quickly and kids ate free. Loved the fun, retro atmosphere too!

Stopped of for lunch here during a day trip to Ottawa from a longer holiday in Montreal. It was on a very hot Canada day so everywhere was pretty busy. The restaurant is in the Byward market area of Ottawa so this was a nice stop while looking around the market. The service was quick and friendly. I had a very nice Cheeseburger and one of their very thick shakes (which come in a long glass with a separate metal container with about the same amount in. Great food and service, recommended for anyone visiting the area.

Our excellent server! She was very attentive.?
