This place is just wonderful. And so it's no wonder they are often very busy, now I can see why!I live near the place and have only just discovered this little gem.We ordered the chicken with plantains and couscous, and we were not disappointed in the least. They have a truly genuine approach via the charcoal method, and my gosh it's like something from a backyard BBQ dream ?Give them a try, you will be satisfiedWill be returning soon~!
My first time going to YKO BBQ - I've walked by it so many times and smelled the delicious aroma of the chicken and finally took the plunge to try it out. For four people, we got 2 whole chickens (one spicy) and a side of plantains. Everything was delicious. Chicken was juicy and so flavourful, the plantains were a perfect pairing. Just wonderful. As others have commented, there was a line (we waited about 15 minutes) but I feel it was well worth the wait - this place just may not be the best choice for someone if they are in a hurry.
IMO, this is the place that started off the African BBQ Chicken craze in Ottawa (when they were Yre’s on Charlotte in Sandy Hill). We are **ABSOLUTELY** spoiled in this city to have such great places like this.Anyways, the Chicken, Plantain, Rice, and any of their Ginger/Bissap juices are spectacularly awesome.Ordering and pickup can be complete chaos but it’s all part of the process. It used to be far worse but they have a great system now that means you usually only have to wait 10-15 minutes max for your order. The staff are lovely too.
Fantastic food the chicken is to die for and the goat i could have eaten all night. I highly recommend! Also do yourself a favour and try the juices! The gi Ger juice is off the chain.
One star for the food because the chicken was delicious, however the customer service was awful I mean awful, I called while at home so I can go and pick up the food, I called the first time and the person hung up before I could even finish to tell him what I want and call the second time he hung up again, and after that I tried to call the 6 times and the guy will pick up and hung up while speaking with someone in the background. So I decided to go to the restaurant and the person I was with went in to order and then wait for it for more than 40 minutes. And they couldn’t even give him his order how he wanted it, they putted everything together and he wasn’t asking for a combos. Have been they client since 2018 when I moved to Ottawa, now have seen a drastic change in the customer service, sometimes I will say that maybe they are busy let me wait or go there but yesterday was it for me.Sometimes we really want to support people from our community but they make it hard for us to continue supporting them. I hope the owner will see this review and try to do better for her(his) customers. Maybe hire someone to just take calls, and someone to handle orders…
These simpletons make you ORDER over the phone and then when you come to pick up your order you have to wait in line with people who have not ORDERED Their food yet, perhaps the most idiotic thing I have ever witnessed in my life. So save yourself the trouble and don't even order over the phone, because your food will not be done any faster.
The food is good but not not well cooked sometimes. 2nd time in a row I’m getting sick just from eating the chicken since it was undercooked. The wait is long so be patient but the taste is there. They have amazing rice
Absolutely delicious! Spicy is VERY spicy so be careful. The only downside is the portion. 1/2 chicken was not that big but very satisfying!
Very good food but expect to wait a while for the line. Everyone is treated fairly but the line can sometimes be an issue. (even if you ordered in advance you still need to wait in line)
Very unorganized, unprofessional and terrible rude staff. Over the phone they’ll say you can come in and pick your order, when you get inside they says you have to wait in line while the order is placed 40 minutes ago over the phone. What a hick?
