Quite possibly the finest most authentic and tasty thai meal we have had since our many visits to Bangkok. Just outside busy byword market but worth the extra block of travel. Staff were helpful and so very friendly. Many many very tasty dishes. The Old Fashioned was lovely. We highly recommend it.
We were here in 2020 while we were visiting Ottawa. We absolutely loved this restaurant so we decided to come back. Again, our experience was perfect at this restaurant! Our drinks were very good and well presented. The food was simply tasty and delicious. The service was impeccable. Definitely our favorite thai restaurant in Ottawa. We sat on their terrace on a beautiful evening.
No place does Thai food like Khao Thai. I’ve absolutely loved every dish I’ve ordered from here! Been here 5+ times and the dishes, presentation and service is just exceptional.Their Khao Soi is the love of my life and I honestly wouldn’t mind coming home to it every night… It’s on the heavier side of the soup spectrum, made with red curry paste & coconut cream. The broth is both savoury and sweet.I would also recommend the green curry & the grilled chicken skewers. Reminds me of the $1 chicken skewers I would buy when I was in Bangkok. It’s grilled to perfection!
Absolutely disgusting tasting food with noisy & loud backgroud people talking. Small room/space with tables about 10cm close to each other. I found some green leaf on my spoon and I had to have it changed because it looks like somebody picked their teeth with this spoon and somehow it got on my table right after. The fried noodle and coconut salmon has a herbal smell and taste that makes me nausous. I wish I could give 0 star but it doesn‘t allow me.Also, food is overly priced here. Two dry asFk chicken skewers+2spring rolls( that u could buy in Asian supermarket for 5$ whole pack) with orange and some peanut butter on top is 18$, main trays/meat dish (small 1 person serving) are close to $30. If u must come here for some god- forbidden reason, I recommend you to order A LOT of rice (so u could balance the overly spiced dish).
The food and cocktail we received were excellent, especially their salmon in young coconut. The ambiance was cozy and upscale for a Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Even if we ate inside, since the outdoor seating was full, I have to say that the outdoor seating looks very inviting. The service was also good and friendly. However, service was slow. We went on a Tuesday and the restaurant was pretty full, so we ended up waiting 35-40 minutes for our food. The cocktail, while delicious, was small and the portions of jasmine rice we ordered also could've been bigger.I'd still give this restaurant an 80% rating since the food truly was some of the best Thai food I ever ate. I would recommend it to people ready to wait a bit to get their order.
The satay chicken skewers are a must try - they were super tender and served with a sweet peanut sauce. We also had 2 curries, which tasted pretty ordinary. Food came at a reasonable time and our server was attentive. My biggest issue is that they sat us in the corner of the restaurant next to the window where some guy was cleaning even though there were lots of empty tables in the restuarant..
Nice atmosphere in a small package. Not too many people indoors allowing for an intimate dinner with friends.Service was prompt and friendly, attentive and sincere. The food was quick to arrive, tasty spring roll appetizer, and delicious cocktails. The mains were unreal, my party had the General Thai chicken and I ate a yellow curry dish. By far, the tastiest Thai curry I've had, bar none.Prices are very affordable, fed 4 for under $100.Definitely returning!
My wife and I had dinner here before walking through the market. We ordered a curry, pad thai and a stir fried vegetable dish. The flavours were good but the curry and stir fry were thicker than most Thai places we have eaten. The one not so good thing about our visit - the loud sonos speaker in the front window with a weird musical selection that was all over the place.
The papaya salad was bland when it was supposed to be spicy. We also had to pay for the rice on the side if we ordered curry. It was quite pricey for what it is. I don't recommend this restaurant for Asians who are looking for an authentic taste and experience. Also, our waitress was cold and didn't ask any question during the whole meal about the satisfaction of our dishes. She really made us feel like she didn't care about us. There is definetely room for improvement. Until then, we will definitely not go back.
Just picture this. You worked for 13 hours no time to have any food because of work. You came home and ordered from this restaurant and waited for 1hours and 44mins for the food to be made and delivered. The delivery guy came to you and said “sorry your food was spilled on the way. I just noticed it. And here is your tip.” To me, it is like the moment when the medical staffs tell you “we tried our best” so now you and your delivery guy are trying to see how to contact skipthedishes to get your money back. No food. No money. No one is taking responsibility. You are calling the restaurant to tell them that they did not seal the food package properly. They are upset and tell you to contact skipthedishes. Right now. 3hours. No apology. They don’t care. It is an alert to me that I will never order from skipthedishes. Also, since you are still reading, this restaurant doesn’t care about delivery at all. So think twice before you want to order delivery from them.
