Food was good but found the portions extremely small and not filling. The chairs we were given were so uncomfortable we decided to change restaurants. Everything was tasty and we have been in Japanese bar style restaurants but this was too uncomfortable chairs and portion way too small for the price. Sake options were nice but would come here purely for a quick drink. Decor was nice. Staff didn't interact much with us. Others seemed to be enjoying which was a nice ambiance!
First, write the reason for the summary at the top: the reason for giving one star is that the food is not fresh, causing vomiting and diarrheaMy boyfriend and I ordered six dishes at Izakaya Shingen yesterday which included raw salmon. But I don't eat raw food, so my boyfriend eats all the salmon. After two hours, his stomach began to feel uncomfortable, and then there was vomiting and diarrhea. But I didn't experience any physical discomfort. We stayed together all day and ate the same everything except the plate of raw salmon. We barely slept the whole night, going to the toilet almost every thirty minutes to vomit.Just wanted more people to see this. Avoid the same encounters with us. It was really uncomfortable to vomit a dozen times all night.
Who serves unsalted cream udon with Lao Gan Ma sauce to fool customers?? All yakitoris are cold-served, dry, super salty and parched. Me and my friend RESERVED a table but they decided to give us a tiny& uncomfortable table. This place is ten times worse than Mikaku from Toronto… This place is a big nono?
Warm to cold food, some food we ordered never came and yet they still charged us, waitress drinking on the job, couldn't get our bills right for the fourth time, even sighed at us for not informing them to split the bill when we told them at the start before ordering and when we asked for the bill and mentioned it again when we were talking about SPLITTING THE BILL. Maybe not drinking or taking too much shots on the job, they would have maybe done a better job? Who knows...
Very friendly staff. The decoration of the restaurant gives a real Izakaya atmosphere like in Japan. Once the order was placed, the dishes were served in a short time. Because of COVID, the menu options were limited to a few choices, but everything we ordered was delicious. Hopefully we will be able to return when the menu will offer all the usual options.
Two years ago Izakaya was our to go restaurant. The last year or so it has been a total chaos . Pandemic or not, order are coming wrong, and for TWO occasions our take out order was never made and we had to wait for 1:30 outside to get our food. After that not even an apology . I am very sad of what this restaurant has become, total lack of respect with theirs customers .
EDIT: Dined in recently and it was good to see that they're still fairly busy on weekend evenings. Karaage was freshly fried, and tako wasa was a good portion (though not enough wasabi for my taste). They no longer serve sake bombs. Service was pretty good. They check vax records, have a check in QR code, QR code menu, and are all masked up.*****Good food and good Izakaya vibes with plenty of Japanese sake and drinks to choose from. We tried the coffee whiskey highball and black currant chu hai which were so good! Plus they have sake bombs!!Food is pretty good but there's room for improvement. Takoyaki was over fried and the negima (chicken skewer) was quite small. The unagi skewer was a favourite.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with my proposal to my partner after the dinner. They went above and beyond and out of their way with the service. Special shoutout to Gina for helping me out big time. Food was fast, well prepared and tasty
Great place to hang out with friends, tasty dishes!
tasty authentic Japanese food, good sake selection
