Our first time in this restaurant - tried the breakfast menu - was expecting larger portions but we did receive free banana bread slices and the food was enjoyable - service was friendly - parking challenging and washrooms difficult to access in basement.
I travel out of my neighbourhood to go to Flippers. Located upstairs from Vons at Fourth and Bank this restaurant is a gem. We go there for a quiet friendly restaurant experience. Not too small not big at all. The food is great. I personally go for the Seafood Escabeche which is scallops, prawns, mussels, and linguine in a creamy garlic sauce. Every time I go there iI am hoping that it is still on their menu. Never been disappointe!
Wine menu is over priced for what they offer,Utensils were not clean.Food was Ok.
My family brought me here for my birthdayany moons ago. This is how Flipper's became a well-kept secret. It looks like a mermaid's cave. Also they serve these giant shrimp. Great crab cakes . Last time we had seafood rolls. ???so much fish.
Excellent food and service. We had Icelandic cod, cooked perfectly. Lovely humorous exchange with our hostess/server, fun dinner.
My wife and I went to Flippers for the first time the other evening. It was our 54th wedding anniversary and we had a SPLENDID time! The seafood platter was excellent (for a Maritimer it's important!), the service was friendly and efficient and ambiance intimate. We have already recommended friends to go. (I didn't wear a mask either, lol) Kudos!
Rock solid experience. We ended up here because I really wanted seafood and we needed a reservation for Pelican. The clam chowder and shrimp wonton soup were excellent. Almond salmon excellent. Seafood platter the oysters were a bit too warm and the lobster just slightly overdone. In theory because of those tidbits I would give this place 4.8 stars but everything was so good, the service was excellent even when we showed up with a baby. They saw we were looking outside how to get up the stairs and someone came out to tell us there was an elevator around the other side. On a sunday evening we were dining in a mostly empty space with what looks like a bunch of regulars hanging out and eating at the bar. This was a beautiful experience with my wife and baby and I would consider coming back to this place as many times as I'm in Ottawa.
I went to Flippers with three longtime friends last night. I am uncertain that I will go back.My meal was something that I thought it should be standard fare in a seafood restaurant. I had seafood chowder and Moules et Frites. The chowder was tasty enough but not nearly warm enough. The mussels were tiny and over-cooked with one in five not fully open and all almost impossible to remove from the shell. No bread was served with which to soak up the rather good broth. The french fries were soggy and without taste. The table was suitable for two people, perhaps, but certainly not for four. The tablecloth and napkins were clean and new. No finger bowl was offered although it would’ve been an appropriate addition to a messy meal like mussels. Of course, there would have been no room on the table for an additional bowl. All in all it was a disappointing evening at a restaurant that I have enjoyed on other occasions.
Awesome seafood - try the Oysters Kilpatrick (you have to ask, not on the menu). Relaxing atmosphere, great servers! I lived in Ottawa for more than 30 years and Flipper's has ALWAYS been a required stop. Now living south of Toronto and the 7-hour drive does not make you too tired to have dinner at Flipper's! So relaxing, great menu, great servers, it is a cornerstone of Ottawa gastronomic! Reminds me of so many original restaurants in Atlantic Canada!
Enjoyed a fun time with family for dinner. Good food, friendly staff. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. All good food.
