The portions are seriously inadequate. I am not unfamiliar with small, well executed plates, but $26 at citizen will buy you a single piece of ravioli on a plate, and this is no large piece of ravioli. The prices should also bring better service. The hosts are nice, but the table service was super informal and frenetic.I found the glassware was cheap too for such a high price point. This place would be good if the portions were 3x the size or if the prices were halved.
This place been on my list for awhile so I was really glad to finally try them the last time I was in the area! I’ve been to their sister restaurant Town prior to the pandemic and loved their menu so I was super excited to try this place!I love their menu - they change from time to time and it’s always refreshing to see new dishes to try ? I loved the meatball dish when I dined at Town prior to the pandemic so I was so glad to that they kept that on their menu at Citizen!Featuring:- Quebec pork country pâté - smooth and delicious, the condiments/sides adds depth and complexity to the dish- Burrata and Peperonata - cheese was super fresh and that pepeonata - I don’t like olives normally but Loved it on this!- Humboldt squid calamari - amazing squid - lightly battered and the cucumber salad underneath adds a refreshing tone- town meatballs - just as good as I remembered it the first time, swipe to see how large that meatball is ?My server also recommend one of the best raspberry beers I’ve ever had. Every single dish was excecuted to perfection and the flavours are complexed yet balanced, and presentation was impressive. If you’re ever in ottawa, def check them out! They also have an online shop in their Town location for pantry items as well as beer, ciders and wine!
We were a party of four. All the food was delicious. The room is gorgeous. Best of all was the service. The woman that served us was fantastic.I am a server myself and I consider myself to be an excellent server. and have people who only want to sit in my section. I have a very good reputation of being one of the best servers in the city. I actually learned a few things from the lady that served us .It was a great night but it was a tad on the expensive side.
Just had dinner again at Citizen and it was fantastic, as always. Great cocktails and wine list. The tuna tataki, banh mi and octopus were mind blowing. Can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu!
Amazing experience. Drinks are well designed with delicate twists to perfection. Sunchoke was presented 5 ways, elevates and emphasizes the natural texture and flavor. The dessert, tropical mess, is sweet and sour with layers of crunchy almond and creamy sorbet.
A slam dunk in so many ways. A definite place to try in the Ottawa area.I visited with a few friends and tried multiple items, including their roasted sweet potato hummus, town meatballs, Humboldt squid calamari, and sweet corn creme brulee. You can either share or every person can get their own meal, but we decided to order a few things to share. Suffice it to say that they were all absolutely incredible, and each dish coming out of the kitchen left us eager to try the next one. Everything was flavourful, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. My personal favourite was the roasted sweet potato hummus, but if you find something on the menu that sounds good to you, chances are that you'll love it.Check out @foodpharaoh on Instagram for more food!
I’ve been to Citizen several times since 2017 and the food/cocktails are consistently good. I went a couple weeks ago for the first time since the pandemic and the food was still pretty good, but a couple things stood out. First, the chicken burger is delicious, but would be even better with something other than pickled daikon on the side (or perhaps something additional?)Secondly, there didn’t appear to be a sign at the entrance notifying customers to remain standing there until a server comes to check their vaccination certificate. Myself and a few other customers were rudely reprimanded by a female server because we entered the restaurant and went over to greet friends who were already seated. I understand they may not have a full-time host/hostess to check customers’ proof of vaccination, but some signage at the entrance would help to avoid any confusion.
Best food in the city to date! I don’t think I’ve ever gone somewhere and woke up the next morning still craving what I had the last day. The flavour combinations are masterful, and the vibe is just awesome. The staff are so friendly as well and you can tell they really care about your experience.
Oh wow! I may have a new favorite restaurant in Ottawa. The food was delicious! I tried their meatballs (that bread!), the eggplant (which was the main reason I wanted to go), and calamari. Everything was 10/10! Their cocktails are also yummy. Definitely recommend.
Came here as couples for a birthday dinner. Nice ambiance, great food, attentive staff. I have nothing negative to say. Just go!
