As someone who loves fried dough, this place was amazing! I got their classic (cinnamon & sugar) and loved it. There was no line at their Byward market location when I went on a Friday afternoon.
Judging by the constant lineup from early morning to late at night, this is definitely the thing to try when in Ottawa. I found them ok but highly overrated, however, they must be doing something right and they must be raking in the cash. The most expensive piece of fried dough ever.
This was my first time having a Beaver Tail, and I have to say; they are everything you are imagining they are! So sweet and delicious and doughy. This place is lined up every day and now I know why. The line actually moves fairly fast and they offer so many flavors that you will find it hard to decide which kind to get! We got Nutella and Banana and it did not disappoint. Try them!
This is a must try if you visit the Market ... I had the traditional, one of my kids the banana and the other brownie ... we all loved our choices, it's fresh and delicious.
It was National Beavertails Day, where you get a free classic beavertail from 3-5 pm, which I didn’t even realize. It was so busy when I was there at noon, I can’t imagine how busy it will be at 3. The staff was very friendly and were working at top speed to get beavertails to a huge group of kids. Even though there was a line, I had to stop and get a Killaloe Sunrise because I remembered how much I enjoyed the one I had when skating on the Rideau Canal in 2019. It was as good as I remembered!
Always a must to try especially at the George St. location at the Byward Market. Had the apples and caramel beavertail. So yummy but very messy to eat. Becomes very soggy. The server offered me a box to put it in as I could not even hold it. Would be a good idea to eat it with a fork and knife. Tables and benches near by to sit down and enjoy the sights near by. Very expensive $8.50 plus tax but worth the indulgence.
Always delicious. Big debate in our family. I like the traditional and others like the Killaloe Sunrise. Either way you can’t go wrong.
Best beavertails in all Canada. This is the only one that has them with cheese only!! Long line but worth it.Our fave is the cinnamon and lemon! And cheese tops them all!
I will neither be the first nor the last to recommend you stop by BeaverTails while in Ottawa, but allow me to be another. This was the only place that two locals I met recommended I absolutely go, for the tourist moment and for the treats themselves. I got the classic because I'm not one for ultra sugary sweets but still wanted to participate. It was a great experience all around. Sure, not an everyday thing, but that perfect vacation moment that feels special and fun.
The brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon beaver tail is just delicious. I always fear before getting a beavertail that it will be too heavy and am always pleasantly surprised. It feels like a Canadian staple at this point. The Ottawa locations always have excellent quality. Definitely recommend for tourists.
