Other than a trio of people at an adjoining table this restaurant was empty this Tuesday lunchtime. The waiter told some time to appear ushering me to a table and handing me an extensive menu. I thought I’d seen a more concise lunch menu but may have been mistaken. I ordered prawn crackers and a duck curry with jasmine rice. The curry came with duck pieces and serrated vegetables in a slightly watery sauce but nevertheless hit the spot. The prawn crackers did not arrive at all and there was no explanation for their absence.
Ordered shrimp rice rolls, and a mild Pad Thai, and it was amazing. The order arrived within an hour of speaking with the restaurant.
Countless restaurants line George Street in downtown Ottawa. Most are crowded but we lucked out at the Bangkok Thai Garden, just off George Street on Dalhousie. The decor and ambiance were what we expect in a Thai restaurant. On our Canadian road trip, we discovered that Thai food can be more expensive north of the border but prices here weren't bad. Neither was the food. In the ocean of spices that go into Thai, every kitchen produces something unique. So it was here. I ordered pineapple curry with extra vegetables. My husband had Tom Kha soup with chicken satay. Each dish tasted fresh and perfectly spiced. There were plenty of vegetables in my curry.. This restaurant is a peaceful spot on a rather chaotic street!
We had a late dinner here and ordered the Curry BBQ Duck and the Spring Rolls appetizer. The taste of the curry was very flavorful, very good for curry. But the amount of duck meat was very little, not as expected for the price that they charged. With the price, we should have more of the duck meat.As for the spring rolls, in the menu it said that there were 4 spring rolls in one order. Yes it came 4 pieces, but they were very small, long and skinny. Each is only a little bit bigger as your finger. Sorry to say, we were not impressed, and will not come back to this place.
As with other reviewers, I did find it on the more expensive side, but no more expensive than any other similar restaurant I have eaten at since the pandemic. The food was delicious! I ordered a chicken basil sauce dinner (Pad Bai Gaprow, I think) that came with two vegetable spring rolls which were also very tasty. I ordered mine "medium" and it had a nice level of spice. My daughter had a curry dish "hot" and her nose was runny. There is an option to get "extra hot". I think next time I would order "hot" because I do like spicy food and I could have tolerated more heat in my dish. The portions were plenty as we both ate only half of our dinner, and we took the rest home (two more meals for her!). We also ordered desert, the deep fried bananas with ice cream-yum! This is not a very sweet dish so if you want sweet - order with honey. The server (owner?) was very pleasant and kept a cautious social distance. The website says "closed/open for take-out" so maybe they just started taking dine-in guests. The restaurant was not busy and it was perfect for us! We liked the atmosphere.
The green curry is delicious but the portions are too small for the price
Lunch not so specials ! Vegetable Soup... more like broth. Sprouts and small carrots. Good but Very small quantities for $16 +tax
Went in a couple of times and the food was amazingly good! Tried their seafood stir fry and Pad Thai and it was delicious! I had it take out and did not wait for a long time. I gave it a three-star because the serving is too small for its price. But otherwise, the food tastes good!
No, pay a few extra dollars for better quality. This was the blandest Thai food that ever entered my mouth.
Good Thai and Lao food. Ask to make it as hot as you wish.
