Visited many times and tried almost everything on the menu. It seemed to be thoroughly managed by the recipe, as it had a consistent taste. The price is also very affordable so I would recommend this place to anyone.
I love coming here for Korean food! It has a a decent amount of seating and is kept very clean. I love their spicy rice cakes and also their kalbi! The wait staff are nice.
We recently ordered a takeout from the Oakville location after years not been to this place because we were a bit disappointed. We ordered kamphungi and tofu kimchi. The tofu kimchi is pretty good but kamphungi was terrible. It's $27 to begin with for a plate of fried chicken balls in spicy sweet sour sauce. When we took a bite, almost missed the chicken, and it's consistent throughout.. because these balls are full of flour and very little meat. You can see from the pic. To add insult, the meat is like week old meat.. very hard and chewy. I can't believe they still around.
Kalkuksu (Beef noodle soup with vegetables) had a small amount of shredded beef topping only - fresh homemade noodle like, deep bone broth like. One side dish, spicy and sour cucumber salad, was good. Kimchi was refreshing, not fully ripe yet and ok.
It’s as good as it can get in Oakville. Kimchi jjigae is good and so is the jjajjangmyeon. A little pricey Imo but everything is now.
The food was good but the service was the worstI've ever experienced. The server took us in at 9:15. We ordered 3 kamjatang. Which they bought at 9:30. By 9:45 the guy brought us the bill and said they close at 9:50. Then gave us containers within the next few minutes and was hovering around us so that we get uncomfortable and leave. At 9:55 the server literally came to us and said that we have to leave cause they are closed. While we were literally eating and we had to pack our food and leave even before their closing time. If they close early they shouldn't have taken us in and we weren't even that late. Extremely bad behaviour by the staff. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.Edit after owner responseI've have bad experience with other restaurants. But I've never been asked to leave 5 minutes before you close. Also everybody eats at their own pace i dont have to speed up my eating cause you don't like to pay your employees after 10 or if they have some other work. If you dont let anybody stay past 10 then dont accept tables. Asking customers to leave before they finish their food and before closing is unacceptable.
I started my Owl of Minerva journey from downtown Toronto 20 years ago. Now I live in the west and am surprised to find Owl in Oakville. Pork bone soup is still my fav but Spicy pork stir-fry and bulgogi also became our regular order items. I don't know what the secret recipe is but their cucumber side dish is by far the best I ever had. My kids don't wanna eat any other side dish but the cucumber. The little kicks of sweetness and sourness are just prefect. Rice is always cooked to perfection. We love this place. So cozy and definitely the comfort food we always go to after a stressful workday or a super cold day. The waiters and waitresses at this place are super friendly. It feels like home. Thank you Owl. We are the biggest fan!Ask for their barley tea! so good.
I don't know why I fought going here for so long. I've always seen the signs for it, one day I was hanerking for a soup and I am so glad I chose to go here. Got the pork bone soup and it was fantastic, the service is amazing there. I would definitely go sit down next time and try some more of their items, you definitely got a repeat customer, quality food for a good price, fills you up.
I love korean food and this place amazes me.. the amount they serve is overwhelming. Ambiance seems like eating in a Korean household... try order #96.... it's like a hotpot for solo in bowl .... but most likely for 2... yum yum.. plus an extra order of fried egg...
I have read all the great reviews; so ordered on Skip. What a great disappointment. chicken kal guk smelled like an old / going bad broth/ chicken; did not dare to eat it... bone pork soup was not that flavourful at all and tiny bone fragments between teeth were not fun.First and last time ordering...
