What started as a curiosity looking at the beautiful dishes people were enjoying on the patio, ended up in multiple visits that always start with fresh watermelon juice and Mango coconut Sago drinks. Today I was in the mood for something a little bit spicy so ordered the recommended Kung pao chicken over steamed rice; when I heard they had freshly hand crafted Bao, well you just know we had to have some - it takes a special magic to create a crispy bottom and moist tasty top. I’m so thankful you’re here in our beautiful Oakville, the portions are generous, your staff is always on their game and it’s nice to come back to a place where they know you by your name.
First dinner experience with Shanghai Alley last night. The food we ordered was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. All was fresh and perfectly cooked. We will definitely come again! Highly recommend!
Authentic Shanghai dishes make you feel the breeze of the Huangpu River. The service is excellent as well. Highly recommend it.
The Coconut Curry Salmon was one of the best dishes I have had at any restaurant. The salmon was cooked perfectly! Crisp on the outside, moist on the inside and a perfect medium. The accompanying bok choy was exceptional and I could have eaten a platter of it. This dish alone made the visit worthwhile. I can’t stop raving about it!The curried lamb baos were also hot and tasty. The rest of our experience was unfortunately not that great. Our Mapo tofu was dropped off in a matter of minutes and no one came by with the rice we ordered or anything for almost 15 minutes. The wrong dumplings were dropped off then taken away and the manager decided to loudly yell at our server for the mistake at our table. The wrappers of the chicken and shrimp dumplings were tough and hard. The mapo tofu lacked flavour. Service was spotty, slow, and mostly absent.
Knowledgeable and Inviting staff.Traditional Shanghai cuisine.Fully stocked bar with a great signature cocktail.10/10 will go again!
Awesome meals here, and we love the vibe which is so perfectly comfy and chill! Nice place for have a lunch/drink! (Also people are amazingly kind.) :)
When i heard about shanghai alley gourmet a few times from friends, I was curious about why it was such a popular restaurant, and went to taste some of the food. I had a special and authentic experience of chinese culture. The food was delicious and savoury, and every item i ordered had an amazing flavour. The Decorations really made the place have a cozy atmosphere, and the customer service was excellent. I highly recommend ordering the dumplings, as they are fresh, and the waitress told me were made from scratch. 5/5, would come again!
Outstanding. We ordered for four adults for takeout on a Saturday night. We over-ordered as we wanted to have a broad sampling of the menu. Quality of food was outstanding. I picked up the food at the restaurant and the facilities were very clean. Front of house was very efficient and communicative. We will be back!
I got the braised buns because it was an unique menu item that I haven't seen anywhere else. Each bun averaged out to be around $3 and although it is a little bit pricey, the pork filling made it so worth it. It was packed with pork that had a variety of textures and the flavor was great. It almost felt like I was eating chinese pancakes with pork belly. I'm definitely interested in going back to try more items!
I have been to China 10 time and have eaten all over the country in rural and urban settings. Dining at Shanghai Alley is like being back in China – piping hot food, savoury flavours and a range of food that is appealing to all.The decor and ambience of the restaurant is classy, tasteful and intimate. The staff are warm and friendly and very helpful with encouraging suggestions and taking care to give us a wonderful experience.I look forward to returning – soon.
