I went with a friend to order 2 sandwiches to eat in, and 4 to go. I asked them not to make the 4 to go until I requested them. ( I didn’t want them to get soggy).When I was ready to go, I asked the young lady to prepare my 4 sandwiches. She replied with “oh, we made them already”.I asked for fresh ones to be made and she snarled at me. Then the lady making the sandwiches tried to back peddle and tell me they were just made.Clearly, they weren’t. The young lady who took the order was very rude.I’ve always loved California Sandwiches but won’t return to this location.

This is the absolute worst location of California Sandwiches. I'm only a 5 minute drive from here and still consistently put in the effort to drive to further locations just to avoid the terrible service and laughable wait times. I have always had to wait 15+ minutes if ordering in person (understandable - although it is usually alot more!) and most orders by phone are given a very far out time frame for pick up that it is not even worth waiting for. I do not recommend if you value your time at all!
Been more then a decade since I last ate hear. $16 is steep for a sandwhich but it's a meal in itself and so good. Service was quick despite the lunch time rush.
1st off there, the lunch lineup is unrealistically long. But the bigger problem is they don't know how to manage the staff as it was barely moving.I had a steak sandwich and a chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was great as always. The stake sandwich was probably the worst I've ever had at this franchise. It was salty thin and overall disgusting. It was the 1st time ever I never fully finished the sign sandwich. Not sure if this was a one off or if the quality has gone down overall
Made to order, classic Italian momma food. Sandwiches are very generous. (I always say I'm going to save half for later, but I never do because they're so tasty!) My go-to is medium (spice level) veal sandwich, sometimes with cheese and mushrooms.I can never leave without a container of the spicy marinated olives. And now you can buy jars of their tomato sauce! ?
Delicious sandwich! We had the chicken sandwich with sautéed onions and the tomato sauce. Slow to make..but the wait is worth it! Also had a side salad..enjoyed it. Sandwich is big enough to share.

I have been going to California sandwiches since 1972. Mostly at the original Claremont St location and the last few years mostly the one on the Queensway near Kipling. I love their steak sandwiches and especially the sauce. On Saturday afternoon, April 2 at about 3 pm I was leaving Chesswood arena and I saw the sign for California Sandwiches and decided to get a sandwich. I ordered one HOT steak with EXTRA sauce, one MEDIUM steak with EXTRA sauce and a medium container of sauce. Sadly I was taking them home to eat. These were the worst sandwiches I have ever gotten at a Californias sandwich!!! I don't know if the people that work there care at all about what they are doing or what they are putting on the sandwiches. Both sandwiches had NO hot peppers at all!! The sandwiches were nearly dry, very little sauce, I ordered xtra sauce!! As if this was not bad enough, the steak was dry and chewy, I was choking on it and the sauce!! It tasted exactly like Campbells Tomato Soup!!! I do not doubt that tomato soup was added to this sauce, it was a busy day at Chesswood arena so they were very busy. I know what their sauce tastes like, I always get an extra container of sauce, what was on my sandwich was NOT their normal sauce! So to sum up: NO hot peppers at all!! Dryed out steak, very little sauce when I ordered xtra sauce and the sauce tasted like it was a can of tomato soup!!! How they stay in business is beyond me.. I will never go back to that location again..
