If we could give this place more stars we would.. the entire staff here are very kind.. the food is amazing.. they make the absolute best and freshest cannolis you will find in Ottawa.. And the Focaccia they make is delicious and always fresh.. They have an amazing selection on a lot of groceries.. the Nicastro branded items they sell are also top quality for great prices.. they sell some of the best name Balsamic Vinegars I have been able to find anywhere... We love this little gem and you will to..
Bad customer service. No wonder, the owner is arrogant and dismissive. I rediscovered LaBotega Nicastro. Excellent store.
Locally owned and a must go for all your Italian food needs.The sandwiches are legendary, the meat counter excellent.
Great Italian grocery store on Merivale. They have lots of Italian and broader European import goods, and the store-made or branded products are also generally high quality. The deli and sandwich counter are also great, but service can be a little slow. The bakery, however, is excellent, and I now just make my own sandwiches at home having stopped buying bread at chain grocery stores. A little pricey sometimes, but worth it for the quality and to support a local business.
recently went at the meat counter and asked if they have lamb casing. they said yes. when i asked how much meat you would need for the casing they sell the response was "about 5lbs". I told them it is not possible, then the person at the counter became very arrogant "as he is making sausages for 20yrs" . I said I want one but I still do not believe I will need this much meat, although I wished. He became rude because I "dared" not to trust him and comment on it. Regardless my comment , I took the product , thanked him and wished Merry Christmas. He did not respond. I said again, he yelled back at me "same to you". I came home and used it on the same day. I was able to use 3 lbs only, out of 5lbs he said based on his experience. Complete rip off. I was so mad when i realized I was right and the way I was treated for eventually being right. Their program ends at 4 or 5pm. For a working person that does not live in the area is almost impossible to get what you need. I made an effort many times to get there but it is time to move on and spread the word on how they are making business. There are many other stores in the area, European delis, Adonis...spare your time and find another place.

I had a sandwich and pasta which were both excellent. The sandwiches are made to your specs. I had the hot capicola. I highly recommend Nicastros.
This is a great place to buy your Italian grocery needs including a huge variety of dry pastas and olives and a selection of cheeses. I especially like the fresh meat counter. The prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. The butchers are on site so you can ask for special cutsYou must try their lunch counter as they have a great selection of cold cuts and toppings for sandwiches made to order . Or get a hot dish such as lasagna. It’s all take out. There is no eating on site though.Parking is also free in site.
Love shopping there. Their sandwiches are great.
