I didn't love this place when it first opened but now it's my go to chip truck. Fries are excellent. Poutines are excellent and while it's not my thing, the pulled pork poutine was a crowd pleaser. They had a "Newfie" fries dressing and gravy that was just ok, but they have since changed it (according to the server based on listening to their customers) and it's as good or better than anything you can get in Newfoundland. Burgers remind me of five guys but bigger. Super messy but very good. Appreciate that they're not just a cash chip truck as well. Takes credit and debit.
I've ordered from here in the past and been less than thrilled about portion size, Knowing who Fat Les is personally I'm sure there is more going on his plate. The food is usually good but this last order of a S poutine left me feeling ripped off on the cheese curds. I counted 8 curds. I've read elsewhere in the comments they put 3 oz on a small poutine but there seemed to be less curds in here than you would find in a 2 oz snack bag.. not that impressive for an almost 10 dollar small
Finally took some time to try out Fat Les’ burger stand here in Barrhaven.First I like the idea of a window to order and one to pickup. And the littleDigital doohickey to notify you when it’s ready? At a chip truck? Fantastic. She had a Wham Burger and loved it but found the patty a little in the thin side.I had the Oklahoma Onion burger, which thankfully came with two Pattie’s otherwise I would have found it too thin as well. But flavour? Those burgers were full of it. From the fried onions that had just the right sweetness to the cheese that balanced it out, veggies on the smash were fresh and crisp, and the bread was melting in our hands it was so fresh. The fries were dead on perfect roadside French fries. Crispy outer with a warm fluffy inside. My only three issues are there’s absolutely no seasoning on the fries. Not even a tiny bit of salt. And if you need condiments - say ketchup? There’s nothing to put it in. A back and forth 3 times just to get ketchup, and vinegar. Should have little cups or something so you don’t have to carry unwrapped burgers or open French fry boxes back and forth again and again.Overall great food.Good location, lots of parking.
Not bad.. fries taste frozen...i ordered a small poutine and a small fry and i got given a medium poutine and a small poutine. Was a bit confused . I was wondering why it was 20 bucks. the cashier didnt seem to realize . I left with the wrong order i did not get my correct order .... She was friendly & all i just didnt understood how my order was taken wrong when it wasnt even busy and i had 2 items. My first time there and itll be awhile before im back. Maybe ill try something else next time as ive had better poutine. No i dont work in the food industry at all... infact i work in the health care industry. I live in barrhaven and have been wanting to try this chip truck for along time and today was my first time amd wasnt overly impressed
Haven't had a bad meal from Fat Les'. Gave the brisket poutine a go today and oh my was it good. Meats are smoked on-site.
