A great high end store with some unique products that are hard to get anywhere else. Deli always has what I need but always crowed. Bakery smells great but watch for old pastry.Cheese is great to visit and lots of options.Meat is prepared in store everyday but watch the expiration dates. Amazing work by all the staff in this store. Great managers, polite counter staff and hard working ladies at cashier. It’s always nice coming into this store.
The amount of products on the shelves which are very difficult to find in other grocers is formidable. Their European butcher's counter is exceptional! Prices are good as well. Highly recommend.
Unbelievable endless deli counter (foodie tip: cold, not hot, smoked butterfish). Just don't try to take pictures of it, I was inexplicably scolded for that. Excellent produce selection and quality. Huge selection of eastern European goodies.
Fairly good selection of imported European confectionery, great European-style deli and cheese selection, decent bakery. Definitely a great option for people looking for thise kinds of goods in Toronto.Unfortunately, the service has been getting worse and worse over the years and no one seems to care. The ladies at the deli will ignore you for extended periods of time, rude service, rude customers...
Starsky stands alone at the peak of the Euro-grocery store mountain, any "competition" far behind. It is an institution; a Mecca for anyone searching out a taste of back home or for some specialty ingredients. Easily the best deli counter in the city, and a top-tier cheese counter as well. Closest comparison to this place might be Yummy Market, but Starsky is far better. The fruits and veg are generally of very high quality as well. The hot table is a guilty pleasure of mine, but can be highly inconsistent. Oftentimes the foods can be extremely dry and crumbly from sitting out for too long, but when they're fresh, they're great and, in my opinion, among the best deals in the city (for the lunch combos). Very generous portions for something like $8... find me a better deal. All made fresh in house, no less. You'd be hard-pressed to cover all that's great about this place in one review, because there's just so much to cover... their cakes, their dairy products, the bakery, the spices, pickled things, condiments, etc., etc. It's all top-notch. I also love the dated vibe and typical Eastern Bloc demeanour of many of the older workers. It's probably my favourite market in the city, for which I make the 45 min trek once a week- it's worth it.
Wonderful location for all Slavic foods that we’re missing. Great meats and cheeses selection. Huge veggie section. Freshly baked in store desserts. Wish they’d have more traditional celebration stuff seasonally. Didn’t find any Easter egg wraps or kulich this year.
Nice store of East European food. Good choice of vegetables and excellent choice of meat products.
I love to visit when I feel home sick and when I need to stock up on my essentials. It’s a bonus when they have my favourite Polish dairy products. Also try some ready made take out food like bigos, you’ll definitely enjoy it!
This is an amazing European grocery store. They have such a huge variety of items, including fresh fruit and vegetables (very reasonably priced). Such a wide variety of fresh meat also...everything you could want. What was even more impressive is their selection of cold cuts or deli meats...I've never seen such a large selection before in my life...amazing. You could try a different meat every day of the year, and still not buy the same one. The same applies for their selection of cheeses. If you're interested in European chocolates and candies, this is the place to go...so much to choose from, and it's also reasonably priced. They also have a nice bakery section...a variety to choose from to satisfy your cravings. In addition, they also have a variety of frozen foods, including dumplings and perogies. I was so impressed by all that they carry. Very nice and friendly staff. I will definitely come back...so easy to want to try everything.
Absolutely fantastic grocery store. It’s like wondering round a European market. SO many different brands you will struggle to find elsewhere and a great selection of everything.And you know what, it’s not as expensive as other import stores are as they buy in such bulk.
