Yesterday evening my girlfriend and I tried out Sushi Umi to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant is a bit tucked away and on the opposite side from the main parking lot, so it did take us a moment to find it, but the interior is very nice, exceptionally clean, and has a very unique ambiance. It is very much so catering to an experience rather than just food.During our experience, we were the only couple who showed up right on time so we had some time to quietly watch the chef at work and chat amongst ourselves. The music was peaceful, and it was quiet enough for us to whisper amongst ourselves. The service was very quick to provide us with drinks, refills, napkins etc. As well as the Chef asked if we were ready to begin. The Omakase experience was exceptional. Everything we ate was very carefully crafted and the chef showed great skill. My favorite piece personally was the Wagyu roll or the Otoro roll, which literally melted in our mouths.Overall, the total experience lasted 70-90 minutes and with an additional Wagyu roll cost us around 220$ including tax and tip (we do not drink so adjust accordingly).Overall, we had a very nice time. While this is more of a special occasion stop as we are in our mid 20s, I would definitely recommend it as the food, and experience was a welcoming treat. If you have the chance and the finances to come here, I would recommend you at least give it a try!

I’ve ordered sushi set takeout from this place awhile ago and it was incredible - probably the best in GTA for the price. So when I finally got the chance to try their dine-in omakase experience, I had really high hopes. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience. There are only 12 seatings, with 3 chefs each serving 4 guests. It feels like a personalized and intimate experience which I really appreciate.I was served by chef Ivan. Our first appetizer was Chawanmushi which was loaded with crab meat!? It also had a great umami taste from the different seafood. For the sashimi dish, we had a separate dipping sauce for the white fish that pairs really well together. The sushi part is probably the part we are a bit let down. The sushi were all fresh, but none of them was particularly memorable… One comment I do have is, for the torched black cod + negitoro+ uni sushi, although I love all three things individually, I do think the flavour of the black cod overpowers the delicate flavour of the uni. Our most memorable thing out of all sushi is, surprisingly, the nori of the hand roll, which was super crunchy!Overall, I really appreciate their attention to detail, all components in a dish were well thought out. Not to mention their impeccable service ?. The $150 price point is fair. May come back again when they change to a different menu.

Very nice food, and good service !

First Time being this place. Service and Food ? beyond my expectations. Highly recommend this place if you willing to try Something new. Will come again soon.

Really enjoyed my omakase experience at Sushi Umi. Recently I came here for the third time and I still enjoyed my experience a LOT. For $150 + tax and tip per person, you are getting 2 appetizers, a sashimi platter, 10 pieces of sushi, one hand roll, tamago, soup and a dessert. On all my occasions, my sushi were fresh and tasted great and I really enjoyed their appetizers. They do change their sushi and/or appetizers monthly, so every visit will be slightly different.Definitely recommend coming here on special occasions and enjoy some omakase. They only do two seating time per day, 530pm or 8pm, make sure you book in advance, credit card number deposit is required.

Nice experience sitting around the sushi chefs. There's 12 seats only. Everything tasted fresh and flavourful.

Very nice food and environment

Went to Sushi Umi again for dinner last night. Phenomenal experience as the 1st time. Everything was very fresh and high quality. Appetizer, sashimi, sushi, temaki and dessert were all flavourful with a nice balance. Also ordered the a la carte of the waggu uni and foie gras sushi. The foie gras sushi was literally melted in my mouth. Very satisfied Omakase at Umi. Very attentive staff and professional chef. Keep up the good work Sushi Umi!!!

This was my first time going to Sushi Umi and it was a PHENOMENAL experience. I would return here in a heart-beat.The black cod starter course is so well seasoned and balanced, with a ton of umami flavor and smooth texture. The fish, especially the different types of tuna (Chutoro, Otoro and Akami) that they offer are fresh with satisfying portions. The pieces are simple, and highlight the natural flavors of the fish. My absolute favorite are the lightly torched Otoro (it has the delicious smoky/char flavor with a hint of tuna fat), Foie Gras with sea urchin (very creamy and delicious) and the scallop with caviar on top (exploding taste of the ocean, full of umami). All the flavors of the nigiri work so perfectly together, nothing was too overwhelming, just perfect. The staff is incredibly professional and the interior is a cozy date night spot. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for a nice dinner. It's a perfect entry into fancier cuts of fish or omakase style dining at very reasonable prices!

Everything was amazing at Umi! High quality ingredients made by skillful chefs, especially chef Ivan. Chefs and staff are friendly and really pay attention to details. Clean and warm décor. Cannot wait to go back again
