Although the restaurant appears to be a new facility, it still has room for improvement on cleanliness. Our table had sticky spots and was not wiped down thoroughly. Additionally, there was hair and dust on the seats.Secondly, they really need to improve on the taste and quality of the food. All I'm going to say, is if you claim to serve authentic Thai & Viet dishes, take a few notes from your London and Toronto competitors like Thaifoon, Pai and Bun Saigon.
Chicken Satay, Basil Fried Rice Chicken, Green curry. Surprised that green curry doesn't come with side of rice, had to order it separately. Even Basil fried rice wasn't on the menu, they replaced the noodles with rice. The quality of food is ok, but very very expensive. The food is definitely not worth the price. I wouldn't recommend this. 60$ for 2 people is insane.
This is one of those places that lure you in with amazing pictures and expensive prices only to give you something different. We had pad Thai. It was pretty much a pile of dry noodles with no vegetables and some chicken. Not great flavor either. Big portions but why would you want it?Second picture is kimchi. It was a bit much on the fish sauce if that's your thing. Not that good. I hate waste but tossed this.Don't be fooled and keep scrolling.
Terrible experience. The service and food was awful. Over boiled frozen vege’s, canned pineapple, mushy rice. When I complained (as we were given the check and I hadn’t eaten any more than 2 bites) she said, “nothing I can do about that, it’s been a busy night.” Seriously?? Mistakes happen and every restaurant has an off night - but make it right. We were there a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes and she was at our table only three times. Order, bringing food, and the check. Very short with us and unwelcoming.I have heard great things about this place.. so was very disappointed. I will NEVER be back.
Dropped to 1 star after second bad experience. This time they forgot an item in my order. Didn't realize until I got home as the order was bagged up. Tried to call but they disabled their phone system. Had to drive all the way back to the restaurant and wait while they made the missing item.Won't be returning.Original review belowMessaged me that my pick up order was ready 15 minutes early. Rushed to pick it up before it was cold. Gave me the wrong food. Drove back to exchange and was accused of not bringing back some bean sprouts that weren't included originally. Gave me attitude when I confirmed that the soup broth was new as it was over 30 minutes since the order was "ready" the first time.Nothing offered for my trouble.
Wish I had checked the most recent reviews before trying Ben Thanh again -- wouldn't have wasted my time or money. We live nearby and the last time we went to Ben Thanh was at their old location at Wonderland and Fanshawe, and even then our experience was a big disappointment -- average quality and highly priced. On a whim we decided to give them a try since their move. We ordered online for pickup -- I should have stopped there as my experience online presented a BIG red flag. We ordered the shrimp rolls app thinking a safe bet (more on that following), red curry and General Tau chicken. When you order entrees , which are between $16-$18 ea. be prepared to spend (big time) for the "extras" that one would expect to be part of the dish, not an option. For example, the red curry (an unexciting gooey blah) contained nothing other than the sauce, eggplant and your choice of protein (chicken or beef) . You want to add bamboo chutes? Add $1.50. Extra eggplant? Add $4! Tofu? Add $4. Green beans? $3. Bell peppers? Add $4. Mushrooms? Not available! Basic rice? $3.50! Noodles? Add $4! They call them "extras, so one expects extra to be "more", not "any" -- a $16 entree ended up at $24.50 for AVERAGE quality and portion size. We also ordered Gen. Tau chicken at $18, but after adding peppers, onion and rice it was $27. And those shrimp rolls -- a treat if you call two vermicelli rolls with 3 half shrimp per roll a taste extravaganza, and all that, plus $1 for the dipping sauce for $11. Total cost, including tax and the auto added tip of 10% came out to be about $70.There are far better choices worth the short drive farther such as Thai Cuisine (Gainsborough & Hyde Park) or even the predictable Bangkok Pad Thai on Richmond or even Meesai Thai (Byron) which are far better meals, portions and at less cost. Our meal was done on time and the staff I dealt was friendly -- but this resembled nothing of the Ben Thanh kitchen that was a quality restaurant for years. Now I remember why we were never again guests at the old Ben Thanh north location -- and won't ever be in the future. Complete disappointment -- We've been big supporters of local restaurants during COVID and this has been the worse experience in over two years of doing take-outs. Time for them to improve or suffer the consequences when folks really decide to go out again.
We came to Ben Thanh on a whim, I am so glad we did! The food and service was amazing, completely traditional and the environment was soo warming. They bring the food in concession of ready, comes to the table Hot and placed with such care! I'm So excited about this new gem we have found!!
The Pho was pretty good. I got the Pho with the rare beef and meatballs which had nice broth. Menu is not your typical Vietnamese menu. Some of dishes on the menu are not Vietnamese.
Amazing food and amazing service. Best Thai in the area, and the owners are a pleasure to chat with every time we come in. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!
Over the past 25 plus years Ben Thanh London locations have consistently served great food! The new location looks beautiful. The online ordering is seamless although I think it is quite presumptuous to automatically include a 15% tip for pick up orders, unless you opt to change it.
