We ordered take out for supper from here on May 15th as our usual place was closed....thought how bad could it be! Well, it was pretty bad, the chicken fried rice was tasteless with very small strips of chicken...more like pulled chicken! The chicken balls had so much batter on them and were so tough and chewy you could barely get through it, tried just eating the chicken inside to find it hard and chewy as well. The beef and vegetables were questionable...couldn't chew the beef. Save your money and stay away from this place!!
I was optimistic that the poor recent reviews were overly nitpicky, sadly I stand corrected. Food was very bland, extremely oily, even for Chinese food standards. This food WILL ABSOLUTELY give you the runs an hour after eating. You have been warned.
I heard this place was good a while ago but did not realize that they changed ownership. My tao chicken tasted really off and my pregnant wife's chicken balls were very under cooked and doughy. The chicken fried rice also tasted really weird and like it was days old. I wish i just ordered from VIP like we usually do but i guess we had to learn our lesson the hard way. Don't go here to eat its nasty.
It used to be much better, and since the change in ownership, things have fallen very far.Items taste strange or off, some things are very undercooked or overcooked, and the prices are far too high to bother ordering when the quality is as low as it is. Both times I’ve tried their chicken balls, something was horribly wrong. The first, the batter was still raw in the middle, and the second, they were overdone so much I had trouble crunching through the stone-like shell of nearly burned battered chicken. Vegetables in certain dishes, namely, sweet and sour pork and general Tao’s chicken, were either cooked beyond taste or only cooked enough to count as “not raw”, which would have been preferableI would not recommend them, there are at least 10-15 better Chinese restaurants near the downtown core, try one of them.
i ordered the shanghai noodles witch on there menu was supposed to to be spacey and they were not on the menu they have a chili pepper beside it and it means hot they were spicey not sweet. the chicken balls were cold and tasted like they were old and the rice was super dry and had a weird smell to it. never order from here it was the grossest thing i ever ate if i could rate it a 0 i would. In the restaurant they had pots pans and food items stored in the dineing area just laid out everywhere and had cardboard laid all over the floor that looked really dirty and oil stains all over it
Ordered takeout for my first time from here, & it was very delicious!! Food came hot and fresh. I will definitely be ordering again! :)
I should have listened to every single person who has talked about this place since the ownership change. They have gone from best in town to worst in town. Chicken balls were somehow both overcooked and doughy, and tasted like they were made last august. The chicken fried rice tasted like it just had its fourth trip through the microwave. They also use cheap cabbage egg rolls. Absolute GARBAGE. I don't know how they are still in business, I imagine most of the old regular customers have had their "never again!!" meal by now.And that one reviewer who said that they would not be refunded if the chicken balls were cut in half? Makes me think they had planned to re-use them.
Used to be our go-to place, even back to the days when they were Asian Star on Princess.Mai was the best hostess ever...Remembered my kids' favourites, even if it was the very rare months between visits. My wife and I even hosted a joint 50th Birthday party for 30 people and Mai let us have the restuarant to ourselves for a couple hours.Fast forward to this year.Mai has sold the place and we have heard that the new owners have let the place go into the dumpster, so we don't go anymore. However my daughter, whos has been to ESV many times, now goes to Regi and went just because her friends were going. She couldn't finish the meal....If food wasn't over salted it was tasteless and if it wasn't burnt it was soggy...Too bad to see a once great place get cheaped out to the point where it'sd a no go zone for my family.
Used to be my go to place, the last three times I ordered (tried a few times in case they were having off days, but no they weren't) have been really underwhelming. Very bland food and really oily now, I used to order the salt and pepper prawns as they were sooo flavourful, it's not the case anymore. I did not know the owners changed, now I do and it makes sense.Sorry East Side Village but I won't be ordering from you guys anymore, maybe if I didn't know better and just moved here, but since I had better, no can do.
Ive never had Chinese food this bad. Everything went in to the garbage.Chicken fried rice was days old, smelled and tasted like rancid oil. The chicken was re-used from old chicken balls and was rock hard. One bit was enough. The S&S chicken balls were not cooked through. The batter was still wet inside, and coated my teeth. Awful.Spring rolls were so salty my mouth hurts. I actually ate them, with enough plum sauce, but I regret it.I feel bad for anyone who orders from here. Waste of money. It used to be good, but the new owners obviously dont care.
