I feel like I've been to every sub shop in the city but can't get enough of this Mike's location. The thin lettuce and onions is the ticket here. Torpedo is my favourite even with the fake bacon. The best part is the price. Big staple in East Hamilton.
My wife was grabbing us lunch while running errands. I've never had a sub shop tell me what toppings I was allowed to have on my sub. While getting the order filled other costumers walked out from being told what they can and can't have on their order. When I finally recieved my sub, I only had 2 of the 5 toppings I like on my pizza sub, and I couldn't even tell you what the meat was other than it wasn't pepperoni. Will never order from here again.They were also screaming at the customers about their boss John's rules and that they'd call him to let him know they were having a problem. All this was just way too much drama just to order lunch.
No frills, traditional submarine sandwich shop. Fresh buns, classic toppings. Been a staple in the neighbourhood for decades for good reason.
I thought Duarte's on Barton was the best - Mike's will give them a run for their money. Great spot for fast, good sandwiches, highly reccomend
Have been coming here for a very long time. Always good friendly service, even when training new employees. Food is always good for the price. Hours are also good to accommodate time schedule.
Mike's Subs on Ottawa always has great subs. Fresh buns and toppings at a reasonable price. I have loved every sub that I have bought there. Highly recommend!
The star is strictly for the food itself, the woman who runs this place now is terrible, and the sanitation is subpar to say the least. No gloves when handing food, touching handles, doorframes and money before stocking their meats. But the thing that ensured I’d never come again was my experience back after 5 years. I came in ordered three subs and while the daughter was making my subs I received a phone call, normally I wouldn't answer BUT it was important, I picked up to sort out funeral arrangements/ gifts with my mom, while I was talking I watched this curly red headed woman MOCK me speaking and glance at a picture behind her- how could I have forgotten about this obnoxious sign? “If you are on the phone we will ignore you as if you dont exist” I mean? I get it if they were speaking with me I would have never answered, but I sat there awkwardly waiting while the girl rolled her eyes and gave me attitude every time I said something to her anyway. When I lived in the area and the guy ran it I used to enjoy coming here, these people who work the front now are the type of people who live to make people feel lesser than- you feel like being spoken to in a condescending tone? You want dirty bare hands touching your food? You want someone mimicking you as you speak about a deceased family member? This is the place for you people. Also no tap cards or cash only.
I’ve been to Mike’s subs a few times over these past few months and have never had an issue until today. In this day and age I can not fathom why anyone would think it’s even remotely ok to handle someone’s food with their bare hands and a dirty bandaid on! This is definitely not ok and in my opinion should be considered some kind of health code violation. I’ve enjoyed Mike’a subs I find them delicious, filling and a good bang for your buck but after today I am disgusted and will not be back anytime soon. If anyone from Mike’s subs sees this i really hope it gets addressed with the staff.
I went here around 9:30pm on March 20th 2022 (about 3 hours before the mask mandate lifted). I parked my car a short walk away, and realized partway there I forgot my mask while my girlfriend had hers. I thought it wouldn't be an issue. As soon as I walked in the employee (tall blonde gentleman) immediately said "you need a mask, there's a sign on the door". I said "man I just forgot it in the car, the mandate lifts tomorrow". He said quickly and aggressively "I don't care, you can get a mask or get out". I tried to say "I have no problem with wearing masks if you have an extra, Im not trying to make a statement here" but he just repeated himself, clearly relishing getting to tell somebody off. I looked over at the girl making a sub who seemed at a loss for words (and maybe used to his behaviour). I decided to go to Mr. Sub instead. So while I cannot speak on the quality of their subs, I know that this is honestly one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I am not an anti masker or anti vaxxer of any kind, just thought the guy would cut me some slack! I genuinely thought the guy wanted to fight me just because I forgot my mask in the car lol sad !
We have been supporting Mike's subs for 6 plus years today Sunday March 19th I came in to make an order , maskless as I am exempt .Like I have multiple times throughout this event . I was told they are not gonna serve me . I said sure can I call it in then . The girl says No we don't serve people with out a mask . Well we will never purchase here again good job hiring Kids who do not understand how things affect your Business.
