Sushi Bar

This is far from good or authentic Japanese food and over-priced. One example is that they put mayonnaise type dressing on some of the sushi and California rolls. Very bizarre. The dumplings were decent, but again, over-priced. One positive, is that it is social and novel, for Jersey.

We went for a late lunch. When we were there we were told we couldn’t order fresh sushi and had to get it from the conveyor belt, though this wasn’t a problem, the sushi on the belt was plentiful and of a decent variety. You could get hot food to order still however. Sushi was tasty and reasonably priced compared to most Jersey prices, in line with what you’d expect on mainland UK. However hot food was a bit on the pricy side and not amazing. Staff were helpful and attentive.

Food is great and decent value for what it is - have been eating here for years. However, getting increasingly annoyed with wait times. 3-4 times in a row now I have ordered sushi, hot food and a mix to collect and they have consistently been late. Regardless of pickup or delivery, they always exceed the quoted time and it’s discouraging me from visiting again. I can understand food taking time, but ordering 2 hours in advance and then having to wait another half an hour after turning up for food is incredibly disappointing. While I love the food and the staff are great, an improvement in cooking time or an update to the mechanics for estimating wait times is sorely needed before I’ll be visiting again.

Very long wait (2hrs 45mins) for delivery. Which was stated, but bear in mind if you are hungry this is not the place to get a quick takeaway dinner. One item was not available (veggie sushi). Replaced with fish sushi and free dessert. Nice enough but disappointing there was no sushi for me to eat. The hot food was cold on arrival. But tasty. Miso ramen was hot and yummy! LOTS of plastic waste. Won’t be ordering again unfortunately.

Absolutely love eating in Bentos. The food on the belt is tasty and fresh and the hot kitchen dishes equally so. It can be slightly irritating that when ordering as a couple, the hot dishes (we only ever order two) ALWAYS come out separately and usually at least 10-20 minutes apart. At which point one of us is generally left to just watch the other eat. Despite this, we generally have a good experience. We recently decided that we would try the takeaway service. We ordered the food at 9.30am for a 2pm pick up. The rice of the sushi was very dry, the pieces of fish very small and we could tell it had been prepared hours earlier. Unfortunately, it does not taste very nice if it has been made so far in advance. We will definitely continue eating in, when we can, but will not opt for using their takeaway option.

My friends and I absolutely love Bento's... the food is fantastic and never disappoints. However, the delivery service must be one of the worst in Jersey! I ordered a meal at 4 o clock a few weeks ago (knowing that their delivery service was slow) and I was then informed that it would take 3 hours - having dinner at 7 o clock seemed perfect to me. It came to 7 o clock... nothing... 8 o clock... nothing... so we decided to call them and they told us that it would be with us shortly as the driver had some difficulty. It came to 10 o clock and we decided that this was ridiculous, so we called them and there was no answer! We called again and again until it finally arrived at about 10:30pm. This seemed laughable, considering we had only ordered cold food! Today, we ordered a takeaway at 5 o clock, which told us we could collect from 1 hour, but no... we then received a text saying that it would be ready at 6:45pm. We will see if it actually is or if they delay it once again! I'm so disappointed with this delivery service and because they are currently the only sushi takeaway/delivery, they get away with it.

I like to support local business and restaurants in this economic climate but I can’t think of worse service pretty much well, EVER, ANYWHERE in the world... I decided for half term to stay local & treat it like a holiday... dinner out every night. Been to great restaurants: El Tico, Off the Rails, Ransoms - BEAUTIFUL & GREAT SERVICE!! I took my 3 year old to BENTO for sushi on Wednesday evening about 5.30. Restaurant was not busy. Grown ups who arrived after us had hot food orders taken first; their food arrived quickly. I ordered 4 hot dishes which were not served by the time my 3 year old had completely finished eating several conveyor belt sushis at about 6.15. He was tired and ready to leave. I asked for the hot food to go and the bill. The food came; no bill; I asked for the bill again and was asked to pay at the till. Paid about £43 and change - didn’t take the receipt. Left. At home: No gayozas which I ordered. Ribs fine (bit dry). Fried noodles looked unappetising (polite description) and the squid was greasy, soggy with salad leaves having been thrown in to hot fried food. Telephoned at 7.50pm to speak to the manager - he was not available but invited to send him an email. I declined and said I would leave my number for him to call me; otherwise happy to just write a review with nothing further; the waitress took my number. NO CALL BACK THAT EVENING... NO CALL BACK THE NEXT MORNING... I waited until after close of lunch service on Thursday... no call back. I went back to the restaurant at around 2.05pm. Woman who served me the night before told me manager was not there on asking for him. She’d taken my call and passed the message on but the manager had been too busy to call me back. I told her I was not happy and it was unfair he’d left her to deal with this. She asked me what the problem was and I showed her the dogs repeated dinner and squid - I asked her what she could do about it; she told me nothing, she was not the manager. She offered to call him, I agreed. I was then asked to wait 10 minutes for him to magically be available and arrive at the restaurant. I had my 3 year old with me. So I waited, he arrived. He asked me what the issue was. I explained this was my second encounter with Bento, first was a takeout which arrived cold and when I called up was told to “put it in the microwave!!” The “owner” collared the head chef who was putting something into the fridge. I explained the issues AGAIN... the head chef refused to look at the food and told me hundreds of people were happy with it. Because I had asked for eat in food to go, the squid came as it was served with a dressing on top!! I repeatedly asked the owner and chef to look at the food (which had been taken off me by the waitress and was behind them). The head chef said “ah well it’s been in the fridge now overnight”. I had to get my phone out to begin to showing photos of the food from the night before to prompt him to look at the food which came out of his kitchen. The noodles would have looked great on a plate he said!! The squid was as it would be on the table - the lettuce was not as I described it, disgusting. The explanation for the lack of dumplings was simply that the waitress hadn’t taken the order (I found this out at the end). I told the chef that if he was proud of the food there was literally nothing else I could say to him. The owner stood by whilst I dealt directly with the head chef - how unprofessional!! He then turned to me and said “I’ve heard both sides now”... “you were very wound up when I walked in”... “I don’t like your attitude” (when I lowered the volume of my complaint when he accused me of shouting at him and his staff - which he doesn’t respond to). When I tried explaining to him, why I might be annoyed especially at his part in not offering any Customer Care by phoning back to deal with this he told me “I’ve heard you. I’ve heard you I’ve heard you (repeat)...” “I’m very busy and I’ve been working the whole time...” Yet he had 10 minutes to walk around to the restaurant but couldn’t make that time available

Went there and service was terrible. Staff were very rude and food took way too long to come out and was not up to the standards I thought was going to be

I hate to write bad reviews, particularly of Bento because I've dined here many times over the years and have always thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. However, I have to say that the quality of the food I received this evening was notably poor. The famed Katsu curry I've often dreamt about was closer to a dessert than a main. All of our dishes were either flavourless, too sweet, or bathing in oil. I know times are hard at the moment, which is why I feel semi-awful writing this review, but at the same time the prices at which these dishes are charged versus the quality is unjustifiable, and I suppose I find myself writing this in the hope that it's taken as constructive criticism. I've always loved your food and was keen to order from you to support what I consider a great local business, and I'm sorry to say it, but tonight was a let down.
