We needed a place to go to celebrate my mothers birthday and picked this location as we had been here once before and had a good experience. This time it was not very good. And almost entirely due to the service. Unfortunately, your impression of a restaurant can be heavily based on the experience you have with your server and the overall service you receive. In this case, my personal experience of this restaurant was reflected by the poor service we received on this special occasion.I called to make a reservation and told them specifically it was for a birthday and could they do like a dessert or something special with a cake. The person I dealt with said they could not do an entire cake (which was fine) and to just inform the hostess when we arrived and tell them. When we arrived and were greeted by the hostess, I spoke to her privately and told her that it was my mother's birthday and could they do a cake at the end of meal. She said they could do a piece of cake (with candles) that they were serving that day and I chose one from the ones available. When our server finally came around after a long wait, I could tell (and my mother confirmed this later) that our server was not friendly at all and we felt as though we were a bother to her. We put in our orders, and my mother requested her tea be served with her meal as she usually does and this is not usually an issue. I ordered a coffee and it was very good. We all had a variety of different meals and all tasted very good. I had a waffle with strawberries and it was excellent. But my mother was never served her tea until we asked again. And whenever we requested something from our server it seemed to be a long wait or we had to ask twice and we felt like we were being a nuisance to her.As we were finishing our meals, I got the impression based on our servers attitude, that she either didn't care or remember about my mother's birthday. So I left the table to find her. I asked if she knew about my cake request that I made with the hostess and she said she did not. So I had to tell her which cake I had chosen and to please bring it out as we were all finished our meals. Eventually, the server did bring out the cake with candles, but just put it down in front of my mother without a word.I'm giving this place two stars because at least the food and the coffee were very good. But due to the poor service, on what should have been a happy, special occasion, our server left us with a bad impression of this restaurant. And because of that I cannot recommend the Pickel Barrel, nor would I return.
We had 3 orders of fish and chips, salad and a couple of pops and coffee. They give you a complimentary dish of pickles as you wait for your food. We got an extra round of pickles... teen boys just inhaled those really quickly... twice.Pickle Barrel is now owned by Recipe. The menu's been reduced and so they kept most of their top selling items.I wish they gave complimentary warm pumpernickel bread and butter like they did years ago. Complimentary bread is always a good thing. We like the pickles, but it may not work well if everyone. Warm, fresh baked bread is always a winner! The hostess and servers were pleasent. I would definitely come back to this location. Thanks
Came here with my Nona for a late dinner - she asked to be sat near a washroom as she can't walk far and frequently uses it and we were put so far away from there that I had to help her every time.Maybe the hostess just thought we were being picky rather than requesting it because she physically needed it ?The server was lovely and polite but the food was just okay...the chicken on my beet salad was full of chewy bits and didn't look right
I am only giving this 2 stars because the watress Rebecca was wounderful and handled the situation like a champ. The pictures here were of the Smoked Meat sandwich with "Pile it on" added for extra meat. This was a sandwich for $17 with another $3 for extra meat. I have been to pickle barrels before and was amazed that this was even alowed out of the kitchen. When the watress arived, I looked at her and said "This is a depressing sandwich with extra meat". She completley agreed and said she would go to the manager. Two minutes later, unkown lady comes over with a small bowl of extra meat and says "Here you go, we are sorry you felt the sandwich was a little light on the meat". I could not believe that reply.. I don't believe it. The world committie on sandwitches wouldn't believe it. Anyone wouldn't. I, without objection, was about to have a $20 sandwich that looked like this. I was floored at the lack of self awarness in that statement. You dont blame the customers expectations. You blame the kitchens lack of standards. Regardless, they did correct the situation. And the waitress was apologizing all the way through the meal. She didnt need to, I realized they are probably cutting portions to see what they can pull off under peoples noses.
We are suppose to be dinning at Joey's but ended here. The woman who got our orders was one of the best! She did served us, very well! Awesome place!
Pickle Barrel is a favourite for my wife and I. The food is consistently good and the service prompt. I took away one star because the serving sizes have gotten substantially smaller, especially with the deli sandwiches. I got the Reuben and the amount of meat is a fraction of what it used to be. It’s the size of a sandwich you’d make at home, not the overflowing meat that you could barely fit in your mouth that it used to be. The fries are also much smaller.
Food was good, but what made it a 5 star experience was our friendly server, Kim! She went out of her way to ensure our experience was wonderful. Kim very attentive & friendly. Will definitely be coming back again soon!
Always a pleasure visiting the Pickle Barrel at Sherway Gardens. The team always makes a point to be super friendly and check how things are going. Kevin in particular gives my family and I such a fun, welcoming greeting. Our go to for good food and great surroundings/ company. Keep up the good work guys!
When I went to this location I had a lovely server named Kim. She was so polite and very attentive when me and my friends were there. She made the experience better.
We had the actual Pickle Barrel Restaurant cater our staff holiday lunch. the Manager was excellent. She saw our order all the way till the end. we went to pick it up, we received friendly service. Food was labelled by staff name for easy distribution and presentation, taste and quality was outstanding. Thank you Jade and the Pickle Barrel team for helping us put a happy end to 2021!!From Reena S
