My family and I stopped by this restaurant last night for dinner. I am a chef and very fussy . I was delighted with the food and service ! We shared the appetizer platter. It was super trying all the goodies on there. My main was the squid…spicy and delicious. The squid was cooked to perfection. Other favourite choices at our table were the Kimchee Soup, Lemongrass Chicken with noodles and the Pork dish on their “main” entree list.
We have been going to KoHyang for several years and have always enjoyed the food and service. The best treat is when Sarah is working. If you don't know her just ask for her. She is a special gem. Today we ordered the Gamjitang for the first time. It is off the charts amazing! My wife got her favorite Bulgogi...never disappointed. My daughter had the Korean Seafood Pancake. The flavors are addictive. The portions are fantastic value. The people serve you with love. Don't miss this gem.
Food was great but we had to do takeout because when I made the reservation they did not tell me that everyone in my party had to present a vaccine passport.
My husband and I went here for lunch over the weekend and had an amazing experience. The restaurant was small, and clean. As we waited for our meal, we were served an array of small pickled and spiced dishes. (Kimchi, tofu, cucumbers, etc.) We ordered the B.B.Q. Ika (grilled squid with teriyaki sauce) which, never having tried this before, was a delicious treat. My husband ordered the Sundubu Jjgae (Soft tofu, assorted seafood and egg in spicy soup served with rice), which he thoroughly enjoyed. I, being a noodle lover, had the Tteok Ramen (Ramen noodles with rice cake soup with beef & vegetables) and I was not disappointed. The rice cakes were like pillows of heaven. Both broths were spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, and were packed with immense flavour. After our meal, we were served a probiotic shot of milk, along with fruit and cinnamon sticks. The service was truly incredible. This little hidden gem in downtown Barrie is a must try!
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Barrie. The family running it cares about quality and by extension, its patrons. Diners are greeted with a small series of samplers on the house. All the food is fresh and tasty.
Enjoyed a very good meal. Our first experience in eating true Korean food (with the exception of when we hosted a Korean student one time and asked him if he would prepare a meal for us at home). On arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to a table by the window. The meal started with appetizers of kimchi, buckwheat noodles (we believe), sliced pickled vegetables and potato. A cup of hot green tea was graciously offered and served. It hit the spot on a chilly evening. My wife and I both chose a sizzling hot plate meal. Lots of veggies and deicious sauce. My wife had chicken and it was mildly spicy. I had the kimchi pork, considerably spicier. Each were served a side bowl of blue-purple rice. A wonderful and flavourful meal. They also offer Japanese foods - sushi and tempura. Great location for the restaurant - at the Five Points in Barrie and across from the Five Points Theatre. Only suggestion for improvement...? Maybe some more Korean artwork to create a more authentic atmosphere....All in all, great value for warm service and delicious food - flavours unlike we have previously experienced!
It was nice over all but the service was a bit odd. I felt that i was treated with "what are you doing here alone" attitude. Mind you it is common treatment you get when you go solo to a restaurant.
We are tourist and expecting great food and service after reading from here. The service was indeed okay, polite, and food was served quite quickly, with hot tea as well. We ordered a tofu stew and a fancy sushi. They all look great. However, some of the tofu was unexpectedly sour. We have had korean food before and never ate any tofu as sour as that, and it was only partially sour. We told the waitress about it, she took it into the kitchen, came out, and said the tofu should be ok. But she also offered that we can pick another dish. We decided too keep that dish. They didn’t require us to pay for that dish. On the other hand, the sashimi on the shushi wasnt too fresh as we tasted it. We went back to our hotel, feeling a bit sick, both of us wanted to vomit. I did vomit, though I already felt sick before going to the restaurant, so I am not sure if it is due to the tofu or not. Overall we are happy with the service, but was disappointed with the food since they seems not fresh.
I moved from Toronto to Barrie. I was on the look out for Korean and some decent sushi. This places fits the bill. The food is very good overall. Sushi, tempura, soups all great. I’m a regular now.
Very disappointing family dinner. Waited 20 mins for the first interaction with the waitress and a cup of tea. Waitress did not respond to any questions about dishes. Once they finally arrived, the dishes were mainly cabbage with a couple slices of octapus or beef etc. Fish had a very fishy ammonia smell. We had to ask for dishes/bowls. Zero tea refills. No one ever came to ask if the food was good, offer desert options, nothing. Not impressed at all after spending $$$ for a family of 5. This used to be a great place - what happened????
