2022 late April: 5/5 - Had the steak sandwich, with mayo, cheese, no tomato sauce, no spice. Was a good hearty sandwich with flavour...a bit pricey for what you get but a really good sandwich overall so no complaints. Customer service (5/5) was friendly and fast as it was the first time.2022 April: 4/5Overall the food was good (4/5), the service was great (5/5), the restaurant was clean (5/5), the food selection was good (4/5), the drink selection was not the best (2/5)...Spicy Steak sandwich: 4/5 First time here so I had mine without onions, and with the tomato sauce and the spicy mix (I think they said a jalapeno and habanero mix)...the amount of steak they give you is a LOT so was impressed with that, plus the cooking of the steak was perfect...the spice was just heat though, it was not too hot, just no real flavour IMO so that was disappointing, plus the tomato sauce that normally goes with it (and so was suggested) was disappointing as it was average with no flavour at all (apologies if the owner is reading this, no offense meant , I really do like the steak amount and the cook on the steak...probably will visit again to try the sandwich without the sauces and just some mayo as I suspect it might be a great sandwich with the proper toppings from my POV)....also the bun itself was rather plain...Fries: 3/5 - really need gravy or some topping with them...they are cooked nice, but on their own they are rather plain, and IMO not the type of fries cause they are thick cut that go with ketchup...Drink selection 2/5: pop primarily, no juices, or milks which really would have enhanced the meal experience IMOTopping selection (for the sandwich) 4/5: quite a few unique toppings for the sandwich so was impressed about that...As noted earlier will return as the sandwich is worth another try with the correct toppings...
Three words:Effing. Epic. Sandwiches.Unparalleled deliciousness aside; the size of these hand-held breaded-chicken-and-sweet-pepper delights never fail to get me through 2 meals in a day!Lovely staff, service with a smile and quick from order placed to landing in my hands. What more could a hungry cyborg ask for???❤️❤️❤️
I love a good veal sandwich and for decades I enjoyed the best sandwich which was at another very small restaurant. This restaurant opened and closed very quickly in this area. One day a colleague took me for lunch at California Sandwiches and I tried the veal sandwich. It was great. I went back again on my own and order an external hot sandwich as the first one I ordered was a HOT sandwich but wasn't hot enough for me. The extra hot was very good. A few days later I went back for another one and was disappointed that the sandwich as not as good as the last extra hot I had. If your a chain restaurant customers expect constancy in the food. One thing I noticed was that it was a popular place for take out. The service is quick and the restaurant clean if you decide to sit down. They also have picnic tables outside under trees to enjoy a summer lunch outdoors. Its not a cheap sandwich at over $12 without any extra toppings. However, it beats a meal at McDonalds ,which today has priced itself out of the market for many, for quality of the food and taste. I defiantly recommend their veal sandwiched. Ill have to try their chicken the next time.
I went into this location for the first time after moving to Barrie from Toronto.I've had Cali before and I have to say the people here are the friendliest. I ordered the veal and the girl making the sandwich and the girl wrapping it where incredible they made me a beautiful sandwich that tasted unreal! Better than the Toronto location by far.Nice too see that everyone was wearing their masks and gloves and everything was very clean. I really wanted to see my sandwich being made so I stood in an ideal spot by the cash to watch what a well oiled machine itwas, just as clean where they make the sandwiches as it was where they serve them well done Cali, I'll be back!
We had a going away party for our GM here at Mercedes Benz Barrie and ordered from California Sandwiches in Barrie and they did not disappoint!! The sandwiches were so huge and so freshly made that everyone was talking about it!! They also gave us all the sides and large portions as well. The owner Frankie was very kind and courteous through the whole experience and even came in at 6am in the morning to get it all started!! it was by far the best lunch we've had so far!! thank you soooo much Frankie for everything and to your entire team as well!! :)
When I enter the restaurant, the guy at the counter was super friendly and help me with my choices. I got the Veal Parmesan and Chicken Parmesan sandwiches, the portions are massive. I asked for the hot peppers on the side as I wasn't sure if it was too spicy for me. They were perfect, gave an extra kick to the sandwich. Both myself and my fiancé love it and will definitely go back.
If you want to pay $20+ for a loaded SANDWICH...go here; it is mind boggling. Yes, it is has flavour and is a decent sized portion, but charging extra money for add-ons is where I drew the line. There are many great local options that have high quality sandwiches; will greet you as a customer properly and make sure you're not just another order number. One and done.
I've been enjoying California Sandwiches for the last 20 years, and once I moved to Wasaga Beach, California Sandwiches was no where in sight. That was until I saw one standing out like a magical unicorn in Barrie. The owner, Frankie, runs his location, like others in the GTA, as a top notch, no money spared operation. His goal is to provide customers with nothing short of the best quality meat. After my first visit, I can truthfully say, he delivered on his mission statement. I have now been to this location 5 times in the last 60 days and it is dynamite each and every visit.
I love California, sandwiches, I had moved away from the city and wonder if I would ever get to enjoy them again. Omg! So happy they open in Barrie.Great as usual.
Pulled up after work to order some sandwiches for dinner only to see two of their employees right outside of the entrance door with their masks pulled down to their chins smoking cigarettes. One of them looked like she was wearing an apron, and she was actually sitting on the ground. I immediately lost my appetite for this place and went elsewhere. Not only is this super unprofessional, you would think breaks for cigarettes would be taking place in a more discreet area instead of directly outside of the restaurant. Gross. Will never return.
