Initially wanna dine in to have the taste of freshly fried food but they only do takeout now probably because of Covid. The fish was so fresh with excellent texture. Halibut should be the most expensive and best one, however, I found the Cod is my favourite with the nice flaky texture. The Haddock was not bad with great flavourful fish taste. All the food was made to order, which was so fresh. Not only the fish was delicious, the chips were so yummy. ?❤️ I prefer these thicker fries that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. So good! ?
Good food, friendly staff, very affordable prices. Reccomend the Lunch special Halibut.
Portion size below expectations, expensive for two people $40 2 pcs of 5x5 fillets and a small handful of fries...
This is my new favorite fish & chips restaurant in the Aurora/Newmarket area. I will go a step further in saying that it's better than a certain popular and highly rated competitor in downtown Newmarket that charges a lot more. The regular $8.75 lunch special at Captain George's is unbeatable. A hallmark of good fish & chips is a light and crispy batter over fresh tasting fish which doesn't leave you feeling greasy. The thick cut fries are a nice complement. I hope more people will support this business, especially during these trying times.
We had the halibut and fries and they were both great! The halibut was very tasty and the fries were thick and tasted like potato, as they should. The service was very friendly too. The young man that served us was very polite and helpful. It was our first time there and we would like to return again soon.
I grew up in Glasgow with uncles and a grandfather all owning fish'n'chip restaurants. Today, for the ONLY time ever, I had to leave the fish on my plate. The cod was too old and/or too overcooked. It was inedible. The owners did not offer to replace it nor did they discount the bill.First AND LAST VISIT.
Always stop for lunch there when Im the area. Nice people.
We had fish and chips and Greek salad at Captain George's. The service was great and prompt and the food is fresh and tasty. We will definitely return to this small family restaurant.
Not bad. Food is good. But charges extra for more tarter sauce which is kinda crazy for a fish and chips order
We have been to Captain George's in Aurora quite a few times and it has gone down hill fast. The portion have gotten smaller and smaller and to say the quality is substandard is an understatement. We went there yesterday, and the cod was inedible. It was clearly refried from yesterday or the day before? It was basically shoe leather with a lovely old grease taste. And of course, it wasn't cheap - we paid more than 24 dollars for two small pieces of cod and a handful of french fries. Will NEVER go there again.
