The food is great and the service continues to be standard. I'm happy to see them busy, however, I will not order takeout there anymore. The last 3 times, I was promised a 20-25-minute wait from the moment I placed an order but ended up waiting a lot longer than that (40-45 minutes). Last time, I was only notified they were out of mashed potatoes when I got there. I order replacement sides, and one of them was not added to the order.
I'm not normally a fish or seafood person, however, I got the traditional and chips. I was impressed by how crispy the batter was and how flaky the fish was. So good! The menu has a lot of other neat items, both seafood and non-seafood(?) that I will be going back to try.My only criticism is the use of a decorative "newspaper" paper liner on the plate. It turned to mush soon after putting tartar sauce on it.TLDR: good food, good price, cozy atmosphere.
Fish n' chips are delicious! Excellent and fast service too! Very fairly priced. 100% recommend!
It was our first time ordered in from them. We got Big Bouy Platter and beet salad. The Big Bouy Platter was good, just felt like the portion of shrimp and scallops were small, we only got 3 shrimp and 2 scallops in total. The fish was very tasty, but the fries were a bit greasy and soggy (i assumed it was cuz we ordered in) the beet salad was okay, the description on the app and the food were a little bit different tho. (They mentioned pecans in the salad on the app but couldn’t find it, there’s tomatoes and onions in the salad but they didn’t say)Other than that the food was pretty good.
Great neighbourhood fish n' chips place! The fish is fresh and you can order the light batter which helps reduce the bad fats, slightly. Also, order the homemade tartar sauce. It's great with the fish. And the coleslaw is good, too!I'd like to add that I've recently been ordering their tasty seafood chowder which comes with a nice homemade white roll. The menu says "seafood chowder" but it leans more towards "fish chowder" with a few random pieces of seafood, and for the the price of 13.99, that is a bit too pricey. I make a seafood chowder at home with all the seafood and lots of it!For those not into fish n' chips or other deep-fried foods, and want a healthier meal, I highly recommend their very delicious falafel!! Overall, all the other items on the menu are quite tasty.. Another big plus is that the owner is very friendly & kind.
excellent friendly service, with amazing fish and chips.
Excellent food but my wait for a pre ordered pick up was extremely long. Only one person working doing the cooking and waiting on tables. Not fair to him or the people having long waits.
This is not a place to order at for delivery raw fish, soggy and greasy. I won’t be ordering here again anytime soon.
Best Fish and Chips in Halifax since the 1940s.Don't miss a chance of tasting the "Best from the Ocean".The quality of food is the same since it opened. I've been going there since I was a teenager! Great friendly staff! Wonderful service!New building - lots of tables for sitting inside.Great painting of the original store on the corner. One of Halifax's treasures. In the north end - Hydrostone shopping area.
Do not suggest if you are celiac. Menu was misleading, went there only to be informed salad and one fish menu option was available. Dedicated fryer yes and the fish itself was good but the coating wasn't. Found the batter on the fish dry and powedery, the fries that came with were hard and overdone and they didn't include any tartar sauce or ketchup. Staff was friendly.
