Love the concept of a zero waste store in Halifax, always a good assortment of items, love stopping in there but I find the friendliness and hospitality lacking from the owner which makes over all experience not good, and not want to visit.
I stopped in the Hfx shop today and got a few things and the staff were next level. They opened the door for us (accessible door around back for strollers/wheels) immediately gave my toddler a dinosaur to play with and interacted with him a bunch. He loves to toss everything so they even kept retrieving the cool dino. We had a blast ?

Absolutely lovely shop with friendly helpful staff. The only thing I want is more selection, but I understand they're a local business and hopefully as their business grows so will the options. Clean, organized, and helping our community reduce waste!If you don't have your own containers they even have a section of clean secondhand reusable containers.As a response: I am really hoping to see whole oats (best for making homemade oat milk and reducing waste there in my experience) and loose leaf teas would be a lovely addition! Can’t wait to see your selection and stores grow!
I have been shopping at the Tare Shop since shortly after it opened and am beyond in love with it/them (both locations are lovely)! Beyond the obvious praise and accolades that the owner, Kate, is due for *literally* opening the store that she as a consumer was searching for…the products and shopping experience are phenom. The Tare Shop clearly places importance on stocking local products from cheese, crackers, nut butters to deodorants that not only support other small business owners, but are of excellent quality as well.I rave about the Tare Shop to my pals and won’t buy quinoa/AP flour/dish soap/yummy chocolate covered espresso beans/olive oil/toilet paper/peanut butter anywhere else. Yea, to say their inventory is diverse would be an understatement ☺️. Thank you for being leaders in package-free, conscious consumption ❤️

The Tare Shop rocks...both Dartmouth and Halifax locations. It takes the same effort to go here than to the grocery store, in fact it is more fun. I love the mint toothpaste because I hate throwing away toothpaste tubes! I know you feel the same way! I take my tennis balls empty container and fill it up with dishwashing tabs. Feels good to support this local company that it literally making a difference.
I’ve been to The Tare Shop a few times in the spring and summer and love that everything is zero waste! I’ve filled up some shampoo, conditioner, dish soap, and bought some plastic-free toiletries! Only downside is that one staff member has been rude on multiple occasions, to myself and the friends/family I’ve come with.
