Fine beer, expensive and skimpy portions beverage & snack wise. Makes sharing difficult, a defeat of the bar snacks’ purpose… Don’t bother with the nachos. Soggy, sloppy architecture, tastes of raw and burnt spice at the same time… Service is quite snooty. If you find yourself in the area, go to Young Pocha instead.
Beer was great - the food was unbelievably lacklustre. I’ve literally never had nachos that tasted like nothing. No taste, not even the cheese. And the fact we ordered a chicken sandwich and a fish sandwich showed up was really all I needed to decide to never go back. Our dinner guest had the same experience a couple weeks ago. Too bad. I’ll go for a beer but not the food.
Great spot for a beer and some wonderful food. An awesome selection of draft and cask options, a couple of side pull taps, and a selection of options for wine/spirits/cider/non-alc mean there's something for everyone here. Worth a stop!
Great atmosphere! Food was okay…. You have to go up to order food and drink it was confusing and a bit messy… but overall a ok
Contemplating 2 stars however it is a nice venue with a good selection of beers but that's where it ends. If you're looking for a hand drawn beer, go here. Don't bother if you're looking for a meal, limited menu and you have to head to the bar to order for or refill a beer. Nachos were good but they were expensive.
The atmosphere is so cozy, it has a elevated British pub vibe. It's a lovely place to go for a nice conversation, or even by yourself with a book. And there's a nice selection of craft beer and cider. But the food is weird. Like too weird. Why does it have to be so weird? Look, I like creativity in a menu but what's wrong with a serving a really good burger (why do the fries have to be coated in curry powder?) or delicious but normal-ish nachos? Everything on the menu would be really yummy if it was less weird. I wish they would stop trying to be North end-hip with the menu. Oh and you can't get cocktails - bar full of booze, but no cocktails.
Atmosphere is nice and the drink selection is good. The issue is mostly with the portion sizes. The food menu is limited, not to say that it’s bad because it’s actually quite good but their prices do not reflect what you would expect to get for your dollar.
We were tucked away in a nice little corner, but maybe that's why service was spotty. Food was good, great selection of beers (but surprisingly few ciders). Good atmosphere too.
It's nice to have a pub on the North End. Stillwell did a great job making this palce feel older than it is. The beers are interesting and change regularly. The menu is good and not too interesting, and the nachos are defintiely a stand out. Nice to spend lazy Sundays here playing cards and relaxing.
Halifax has many bars and restaurants which my friends and I visit often. This wasn't close to one of the best. Our service was noteably poor, our food wasn't particularly good and finally we paid over $100 for nachos an appetizer and an order of fries to accompany 2 beer and 2 wine. I did mention to the server that I thought the place was overly expensive and was told that I was paying for the ambiance. The Quinns Arm on Quinpool is everything Stillwell would like to be.I know this sounds harsh, but I work hard for my money and we're it not for the lovely lady who accompanied me, this would have been a complete waste of a Saturday evening together. One star. Nice washrooms.
