Great every time, “the burger” is one of my favourite in the city and the fries are high quality. Great selection of local drinks too. Also love the ambience, great lighting and intimate setting, great for a date night.
Great food, great service!
Fantastic food, eclectic menu!! One appetizer came out wrong but we ate it and didn’t say anything, and it was delicious. Service was great and informative. My only complaint was after we paid our bill (over $300) we were waiting at our table for a few minutes for our Uber (one had to use the washroom), and the staff asked us to wait outside so they could use our table ( freezing- middle of winter) . So we got up and left, but with a not-so-great-taste-in-our-mouths. Will go back but I hope restaurants don’t go this route in the future- Covid or not!
I eat authentic Asian food my entire life and I still love it here so much. The twist from some traditional Asian taste comes out just as perfect. Service is quick. Atmosphere is vibrance. Table is a little bit small especially after you are satistified with your meal ^__^. Definitely will come back again and recommend for others.

Well, the service is excellent, and they do have some nice desert options, but I feel this restaurant tries to be in the middle of westernized pub food and Asian cuisine and does both poorly. The price point also does not line up with the quality at all.Their burger was poorly thought out. It had an over easy egg, a bunch of sauce, and slaw on it, and just became an inedible sloppy mess.It felt like somebody just thought up a bunch of savory foods to put on top of a burger, but never actually tried eating it. None of the flavors worked well together. The Asian options were slightly overcooked, and consistently poorly seasoned. It's a jack of all trades, master of none situation. And at this price point, there's so many other restaurants in Halifax that are worth your time.
We dined out with friends at Studio East almost a year ago, and our experience got brought up with friends in conversation over the past weekend because it was very unique, hence I'm writing my review now.The drinks were great, the food was average, but it was very obvious within minutes of being seated that our server was drunk - and not just buzzed. She got offended when we asked to wait until our full party arrived to order drinks stating "you could be done your first round by the time they get here". She was stumbling back and forth from our table, asking the same questions multiple times with slurred speech, eyes were glossy, etc. She was acting very erratic when interacting with us and other tables. When we ordered our food, several people in our party asked for there not be cilantro on their dish, although one person at the table preferred it be left on. When the food arrived, the server explained she removed cilantro from everyone's dish because "it was just easier that way". After checking on the table, I think she realized we had started to notice her odd behavior and explained she had been working all day and was very tired. We didn't buy it. Overall, she didn't do anything harmful and we all had a good laugh afterwards. It was one of the strangest dining experiences any of us had ever had.
My husband and I dined at Studio East last evening. Like many locals we went out to dine with an aim to support our local restaurants which have felt the economic brunt of public health restrictions. Because of that , it especially saddens us to have to write this review, but we felt an obligation to given the restaurant's blatant and unrepentant violation of COVID safety rules that evening - rules that are in place to protect patrons and to limit the spread of COVID. (*there are some pluses at the end). We were eventually seated by the hostess at the front by the window with an empty table immediately us. While most of the restaurant had plexi barriers between them, these two did not and so it was safe to assume the other table would be left empty to adhere to the province's pandemic legal requirement of 6 feet of physical distance between people at different tables. Midway through our meal, the hostess seated a female couple at the table directly behind us - so close that the backs of our chairs were touching with ZERO inches of separation. We tried to shift our table away but was sandwiched by the restaurant's fridge behind my husband. We anxiously scanned the room looking for another free table so that we could request the hostess to reseat the women but the restaurant appeared to be completely packed. We have dined out on average 2-3x per week since the beginning of COVID to support our local restaurants and NOT ONCE have we ever felt UNSAFE at any of the city's restaurants - that is, UNTIL last night. It was dangerously unsafe. And illegal. To make things worse, the ventilation was so poor that the smoke alarm went off (our clothes today STILL smell like we were at a Korean BBQ restaurant). The women behind us were clearly happy and excited to be dining out and so, with no other options and not wanting to ruin their evening for a situation that was clearly not of their doing, we quickly asked for the bill and wolfed down the rest of our mains so that we could leave an unsafe situation. On our way out the door, we PRIVATELY informed the hostess that legally the restaurant needed at minimum to have a barrier between the two back-to-back window tables. The hostess, in a heavily sarcastic and condescending voice, barked 'THANK YOU for the FEEDBACK'. We won't forget the look of the young male server that was standing beside her when she said that. There were several PLUSES to the dining experience however, worthy of the bump up to a 2-star. The prosecco came out bubbly and crisp (its shocking how many other restos in HRM try to serve half-flat sparkling wine). Our waitress was very cheery, courteous, and friendly. The bartender fellow was also incredible attentive and had even noticed that the (same) front-door hostess had left us waiting to be seated for our booked reservation at the door for over ten minutes (without once even looking up from her tablet just to say 'we'll be right with you' before proceeding to deal with take-out deliveries that had lined up behind us) and so he offered us happy hour-priced drinks to match our arrival time. The appetizer cauliflower + brussel sprouts was delicious with just enough sauce+spice, and unique enough to differentiate itself from the same appy at nearby Eliot&Vine, Morris East, and Agricola Street Brasserie. Although we found my husband's general tso chicken burger to be overly fried, their milder take on char siu pork tenderloin was cooked perfectly (folks expecting a stronger 'Sam Woo BBQ'-style char siu will need to look elsewhere however). So - we would love to someday come back to support Studio East again, but the way this restaurant operated last night was clearly UNSAFE and a violation of the current physical distancing measures. We have never experienced this at ANY other restaurant in HRM in our 22 months of pandemic dining out and were given the impression by the hostess that no changes will be made. We believe that a respectful restaurant should place the safety of its patrons over its own profi
I live but but five minutes away from Studio East and had walked by its' doors on many occasions. I cannot compliment this place enough. The vibe is unmatched anywhere in the city and the minute I walked through the door, I knew I was in for a fabulous experience. The staff were all welcoming. Even the very handsome and very fit chef greets most customers. His brother is typically run ragged close to the stoves. The bar tender is exceptional and very personable. The servers are all well appointed and very friendly and down right interesting people. This will be my go to place to eat in Halifax as the food, service and ambience is exceptional and everyone working in the place is pretty easy to look at. The pricing is below what it should be.
This place is incredible! I can’t imagine better service or food.. got lots of smaller plates to share with friends and we were blown away! Bao Buns are a must try- incredible flavours.Bartender was amazing ??Thank you for a wonderful evening, Studio East!!
