Look we all have fond memories of the old Lion's Head. Great karaoke and questionable draft lines.I'm pleased to say the new Lions Head is still great! While the character is different than the old spot, "absolutely gigantic" is one of the things you want in a post COVID bar. The menu is still great, everyone is super friendly, and yes, the draft lines are brand new.
I Went here for a quick lunch with a coworker for my first time. The Service was great at Lions Head .I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken burger , I guess I should have paid attention to the word hot , I found it quite that . Too much hot, not enough honey. But honestly , the bun just didn't taste fresh as I would have liked. Just a bit dry for me.We ordered deep fried pepperoni to start , which also was very dry and tasteless. My coworker ordered the Mac & Cheese skillet which tasted great .I'd go back for some trivia and maybe try something different to eat, but I just wasn't a huge fan of the food this time around .
Interesting menu items. The spicy burger and fries I had was very good. Others had specialty burgers as well and all were commented on about the taste and quality. Newly renovated building adding to a good atmosphere, busy and vibrant. Pleasant service but pretty slow, and meals didn't really come together. Parking, was difficult to say the least, unpaved, poorly marked and very full for the number of patrons, and a muddy walk. I would go again but probably not during a busy Friday lunchtime.
Very spacious new building with two levels for dining plus a rooftop patio for summer. We had a lovely brunch. Nice variety on the menu and the food and service were good.
This iconic Halifax tavern was rebuilt several years ago. It is big 200 + yet it has a great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly. The service and the food are excellent. Massive selection of beer. The pub side parking is a big feature. Very modern, very friendly and very delicious.
Was OK. Visited on a busy Thursday night and was quickly seated upstairs. There were a few out of stocks on the beer and food menu, mostly due to some of the replenishment issues that are experienced by everyone.Had the fish and chips and was really disappointed. The batter was not crispy and was quite soggy near the fish, and the fish was quite greasy and heavy.
I've been going to the Lion's Head Tavern since February 11th when they resumed their Thursday trivia night. Recently the bar manager decided to implement a new policy that will exclude my group from attending. The bar is okay, the acoustics are bad for trivia night, it tends to be difficult to hear anything coming out of the sound system. The drinks tend towards the pricier side compared to similar restaurants/bars.The food is also a little pricey relative to the quality I've experienced. The trivia host is excellent, and some of the servers are also very good. I wish I could say the same for the bar manager who didn't want to keep our business. The Old-Fashioned pictured may be my last drink at the Lion's Head.Edit: In response to the reply I received, to be clear the new policy is not that the Lion's Head no longer takes reservations. If you've been to the Lion's Head on a Thursday night you know many teams send a send someone ahead to grab a table precisely because the restaurant does not take reservations. This is how my team has operated for the last 10 months. They no longer want people to do that, and as a result my team decided to play trivia at a bar that is capable of accepting reservations.Fair warning to anyone that goes to the Lion's Head, you may end up waiting outside in the cold for some time before you're seated, and they may not be willing to give you a table even once you're inside.
We had a large group (12) reservation here a few weeks ago. I hadn’t been to the new location, only to the old one a few years ago. The old location was a bit rough around the edges, but it was decent and well priced. This place suspiciously has a lot of 5 star reviews thanking specific waitresses with their full names. The profiles commenting these have single names and no other reviews on TripAdvisor. Seems like review padding as all the actual contributors say the same thing I’m about to. New location looks good. Service was quite slow even though the rest of the place was empty. Food was mediocre at best, but definitely way overpriced for the quality. Chicken Caesar had literal burnt chicken and an obnoxious amount of sauce (coming from someone that loves sauce). Beet and goat cheese salad was incredibly wet and soggy. Burger and wrap was tasteless and bland. Nobody was pleased with their food. Out of 12 people. To top off the reservation, an extremely strong sulphur smell overtook the entire room for over 15 minutes. Overall, you’ll get better food at the superstore across the street, for a better price, with less port-a-potty smell. Keep moving unless all you want is a beer.
The new building has a lot of space, and is nice and clean and modern. I suppose it lost a little of the character of the old place but it’s still a great place to hang out. I’ve only tried the club house and it was very good; someone else had the steak and it looked great. The menu is more diverse and includes more than pub food. They also have a good selection of beers. Will definitely return.
New and improved! This was the first time coming here since they opened in their new building and I must say, it is a great spot!I was here for supper and drinks with friends and we were seated quickly, even though it was in the supper rush hours. Had no complaints of the service, friendly greeters and servers. They also made good recommendations. To drink, I ordered the negroni and it had great a taste for what’s considered a simple cocktail. As for our meals, due to it being Halifax Burger week, we all got the burger, Peter Pretzel Pickled Pepper Eater (now say that three times). This burger was topped with a stuffed jalapeño pepper wrapped in bacon (that alone was delicious) but the burger itself packed so much taste and flavours, It’s too bad it’s not a regular menu item! Additionally, picture listed on the burger week site was spot on to the one we received.Glad we chose this spot and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a laid back, restaurant/pub feel.
