By far one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten in, and we have dined all over the world! At times during our meal, I almost felt that I was in Paris. Seriously. Everything is first class, particularly the food and service. The lamb shank was wonderfully lean and "fall of the bone" tender, and the veggies were done perfectly. The salad was fresh and full of mandarin oranges, raisins, and almond chips. The wine list is very impressive and we enjoyed glasses of first-rate pinot noir and Canada's fine Tidal Bay. The profiteroles were wonderful. To top off the evening, we were entertained by the most delightful music of Lisa MacDougall, who boasts not only a terrific singing voice but a very broad repertoire!
The Bistro by Liz is like being in France....while enjoying Halifax. I have been a patron since moving here in 1982. We lost this gem for a number of years. Liz has brought it back to its former charm with a fabulous menu, featuring many favorites from the original.I had Crepes Moroccan, they were even more wonderful than remembered. My friend had the Seafood Chowder, which was also amazing. A former Dal colleague, at a close-by table said the Beef Bourgogne is her favorite dish. The Shrimp dish was one just completed by the Chef...and just had to be photographed.Liz was on hand to say hello and chat. Her memory for guests is pretty fantastic. Highly recommended.
I always make time to visit Le Bistro when I am in Halifax. High quality food and staff and most times Liz is there making sure that the customers are very well looked after.
Brunch is amazing and they give you a free mimosa.
The charm of Paris, France in the heart of Halifax. Fun decor and fabulous food! The French onion soup is a must, and the Croque Monsieur of egg dipped bread, prosciutto and melted provolone cheese with caramelized onions served with potatoes is delish. There are also several daily specials to choose from, including a daily soup, crepe, omelettes and desserts. Nice selection of accompanying wines available to complete your French taste experience.
Went for lunch with my husband. Asked about the veggie option for the crepes. Was told yes they could make it vegetarian. It arrived without the chicken. There was hardly anything in the crepe. When the bill arrived I was charged the same as if it were with chicken. Extremely disappointed. Paid full price for half a meal.
Superb meal with excellent service. Nice ambiance and friendly, impressively organized staff. Good choice of specials. Save room for desert!
After nearly 30 years we went back to Le Bistro. We were living in Calgary and hadn't gotten to Halifax in a long time. The staff were very good and the food was absolutely fantastic! All 4 of us had amazing food. The potatoes skins, while done a bit differently were so great it deserves a try as an appie and even use as a light entre. The carbonara was so fabulous and the scallops i added were cooked perfectly and delicious. Highly recommended! Thank you Joy, your service was flawless! We'll be back again next trip.
I came in for brunch this past weekend with my family after a friend recommended it to us. We had the eggs Benedict, the croque monsieur and the pancakes, all of which were phenomenal! Also, our server Shavon was super attentive and friendly. Will definitely be returning the next time we’re in Halifax!
